Succession Season 3 Episode 9 All the Bells Say

Comments

Probably one of my favorite episodes of the series. I love the moments when the siblings actually act like SIBLINGS! When they actually show they care about each other, when they stand up for one another.

Thank you so much as always for the lovely adventure with Succession S3. I fully get you on the dichotomy of emotions we all feel for the characters on this show. What I find really interesting is how much you (and a lot of other people! I believe I am in extreme minority there :D) are sympathetic to Ken in particular. I think he is absolutely at the bottom of my list. Like I care about Connor more then Ken. I do not know why, I think it is a combination of the relying on privilege but lacking both convictions and competence. We have see him strike out on his own in S1 and he was a petulant and vindictive asshole. He is incapable of true leadership and way too swayed by emotions. Roman is more self-aware. Shiv has some individual success not tied to family media legacy. Connor is at least funny. And Ken I really struggle to find positives to defend him (I think I just know my fair share of real life Ken-lite people and this is really coloring my judgement here) Ken spend the whole season on a public moral crusade, but it was not driven by actual heroic behavior. All he does is performative and about his ego. He does not take any real accountability. This is why I see his crusade as a PR move above all. And then we have Tom who sat quietly while getting his legs cut out from under him all this time. And he realized that he is never Shiv's priority. So Tom chose survival over love. The betrayal is clean and deeply effective. As Tom said to Ken few episodes ago. He saw Ken get fucked plenty of times, he never seen Logan lose. So him hitching that wagon to Logan? Is smart. Of course Logan is abusive asshole, of course their mother is also selfish and lacks any good maternal instincts. But I think all the kids always come from position 'we deserve it' while not really proving their leadership or competence. Logan clearly believed at least in S2 that Shiv could be that person if she undergo the whole corporate training. But she was spoiled and wanted it now, and came from 'I deserve it' stance and blew it for herself. Of course the kids are victims of their circumstances. But also they fail to grow as people. And again I still find most of them worthy of rooting for. S4 will be a fun ride ahead of us :D HBO does drama like no one else I feel.
