The Morning Show Season 1 Episode 6 The Pendulum Swings

Comments

And we are hitting the season at full speed. We started this batch with everyone still scrambling to fix Mitch-shaped hole in a show, and we ended with some genuine nice moment between Alex and Bradley, a network coup in a making, and a lot more questions on what exactly was happening in TMS over the years. I like that a lot of characters are plainly put not the greatest of people but one still wants to watch them. Mitch hit highs and lows in the last few episodes. I think we are slowly peeling that onion and you really hit the nail on the head when you said whatever did or did not happen he just does not see what he did as wrong or 'as wrong' as other people being accused. I think the actor's immense likeability is great because at the core Mitch is a pure narcissist but we gloss over it a bit because he is affable most of the time. But he clearly now just looking after himself. And this makes him quite dangerous. Let's see where that road takes us. Alex also been going through it and again, a lot of is ego and image driven. Her marriage was clearly dead for years, but a lot of the drama comes from it becoming now public. And her seeing it as another crisis to befallen her. Failing to acknowledge her own role in those events. At least the dogs were cute for her to cry into :D I love her showing some vulnerability to Bradley. They are so different, but it is lonely at the top, and while Bradley is still pretty new to this particular spotlight this is something that they now have in common. Bradley oh Bradley. We get more and more clues on her past (her spilling her guts first day on air, all the glimpses of mom and brother and even troubling conversation with her father. Of course her just getting wasted in episode 5 after he contacted her is not healthy. We do get a pretty clear answer to a question Cory wanted answered. Why aren't you further along in your career. I love that your spider sense was tingling at Cory because well he is an authority figure getting wasted woman to an elevator. But this time it was actually a nice friendly gesture (maaaaybe with just a hint of romance, I think you saying in reaction few episodes ago that he is either professionally or personally just a tad smitten was pretty on point. he just lights up when he chats with her like she is a breath of fresh air in his stuffy work environment) I really dig Chip and Cory teaming up against Fred. Fred really has this air of being unlikable maybe because the show is telegraphing that he only cares about the scandal in how it affects him and network and never on human level. When Chip and Cory plan their potential takeover one cannot help but root for them and they are really fun to watch act against each other; really neat dynamic there) but because we all want to see Fred lose. I love Marcia Gay Harden as Maggie. She really has the air of respectable journalism looking at TMS via its lens. I think she is a fun addition to the season and a great actress. Let's see where her story takes us now and will that poise stays with her. Mia is amazing, the actress hits so many non-verbal cues you see her so torn over that relationship with Mitch and subsequent choices. At this stage when watching I think I had in my head that she was someone who genuinely fell for Mitch, but she saw his behavior and hypocrisy and i tore her up. I really like Yanko but this is probably my extension of my love for the actor when he was on Lost :DI think for as unequal this relationship can be perceived based on age gap and him having a higher work position, Claire clearly has a significant agency in that relationship and I fully believe that their relationship is consensual. And finally Hannah. This episode really just drops a bomb on us with her turmoil. What is that story, why she was so upset seeing Claire with Yanko and where it will lead us? We will see in the future. Again amazing actress and great work in that bathroom scene. Also Jack Davenport (aka Commodore Norrington from PotC movies :D) is absolutely wasted as Alex's hubby. He has so little time, and he might have been my favorite actor on cast when I was coming into the show. (I think now it is for sure Billy Crudup. Cory telling that exec in a baseball metaphor that he basically burned a tv show pilot budget just to show her that she does not have a feel for the business because she kept championing the creator was just so convoluted metaphor but he made it sing. And he really plays Cory as charged with this manic almost psychotic energy. But you cannot turn away from what he will pull out of the hat next) Cheers and see ya next when we will wrap S1.
