Yeah, Eddie was kind of an awful husband.
I just feel bad for both of them, they were both very young and not equipped to be parents or husband/wife. The timeline in this show is generally very wonky, but I think they are around 18/19 when they had Chris?
I also don´t blame her for leaving, I think Eddie even also said in season 2 that she was in the right for leaving. But I will always blame her for staying away. I know she felt guilty and that was partially why she stayed away, but still, she abandoned her kid, and at that point she was Chris´s primary parental figure.
Also lets not forget that she didn´t initiate the contact in season 2, that also only happened because Eddie had to reach out for the school, otherwise she probably wouldn´t have come back either.
It was probably for the best for Eddie, since he stepped up after Shannon was gone, but it´s still an awful thing to do to Chris.
Oh and I hate Eddie´s parents, everything we see of them is kind of awful. Like when Shannon died all they wanted was to get Chris (and Eddie) back to Texas, even though at that point they were fine and had a support system in place in LA. So it´s not about what is best for Chris or Eddie and solely about what they want. When Shannon left they also wanted that. And I just hate that his mom said "don´t bring him down with you" that´s your son! It just feels like they don´t care about Eddie´s well being in all of this at all.
That montage while Eddie is almost drowning is killing me. Especially with that song. I associate that song with a certain other show and that did not help make this scene any less emotional. And I know the montage is about Chris, buuut..... Buck also shows up a lot in this.
