2024-08-17 22:23:39 +0000 UTCSo the way I understood it Myne was a librarian, most likely in japan based on her old name. She died, seemingly she got crushed by a bookshelf? At least the animation felt like that. And then she woke up as Myne. Being reincarnated in another world is a relatively common trope in anime, especially in the last decade or so. And I think she just wants books because she loves them, so waking up in a world without any sucks for her.
