If I remember correctly the actors for Alex and Carrie knew each other before this show and are friends. So this might be the reason why they added Alex into her song this episode. Either way, it´s a fun moment. I´m not as critical about Luke´s selfishness. Yeah he screwed up, but in the end his heart is in the right place and he is just very passionate about his music. And as the other guys said, if Trevor credited them his parents could have known why his dream was worth it. Also, man... his backstory is sad.
