I think due to the format of the story, which is essentially a big roadtrip, the movie suffers from some pacing issues. Like personally I think especially the car ride with Serizawa drags a little bit. But I really enjoy the theme of human connections. Like how Suzume meets so many people, and while their time together is short and fleeting, she still connected with them. And the Gates and Doors being the lack of those connections, or rather where those connections got lost. Daijin is complicated. I understand that he was lonely and wanted to be loved, but... still kinda selfish to put the world at risk. And he kinda just did whatever he wanted, but I guess that´s in character for a cat. I still feel sorry for him that he had to become the keystone again. I´ve seen the criticism that Makoto Shinkai basically makes the same movie over and over again. An emotional story with some kind of supernatural element, but I really don´t mind, it´s very very good each time. Glad you enjoyed it!
