2025-10-30 21:42:58 +0000 UTCI think the translation of "nakama" to simply "friend" is a bit off for the scene when Luffy emerges from the rubble and is adressing Nami. As well as how Arlong is using it earlier in the episode. While Nakama can be used for "friend" it can also be used for "cohort," "teammate," "fellow," "colleague," and other things like this depending on the context. What we think of as "friend" follows more closely to the word "tomodachi". I read that other translations have instead used "Nami! You're _one of us_!" to signify the deeper meaning of the context.
