Also technically Barbara wasn't the first Batgirl, in the early 60s, DC created a character, Bette Kane, who was her aunt Kathy Kane's sidekick as Batgirl (Kathy was Batwoman). Bette unfortunately got binned pretty quick and is now best remembered as Flamebird on the Teen Titans. I'm a Bette devotee and boy DC has treated her like garbage.
