She tried to give him pointers and that's how he got into his head about it, which coupled with his existing mental health conditions blew up the whole audition. (Side-note: Why did his DAD come along?? Julio's not 12, lol.) Also it's so interesting to see them in the future. Julio, while his current film is flopping, is this big actor/director with Jimena as his agent. Irene is still, 15 or so years after graduating from film school, only directing beer commercials. That has got to be frustrating.

2023-06-06 16:22:16 +0000 UTCI think the key thing in this episode is that Irene said she couldn't be with someone who wasn't talented. He's in love with her and as soon as the director gave him the same criticism as Irene about needing to tone it down, he realised he's not good at acting. So he thinks Irene will never be with him now which has sent him into a downward spiral and that's why he doesn't want to see her. He says "You said you couldn't be with someone who didn't have talent, so it's best if we forget about it". There's definitely pre-existing mental health issues there which have exacerbated the situation. He seems to have very low self esteem and high anxiety. He says "I wanted to be with you because no one has ever made me feel that way" so for him it's all about how she makes him feel, but all she keeps bringing up is still wanting him to star in her short film, so he takes that as her using him. He thinks she doesn't want to be with him but still wants him in her film.
