You're so right and to have the moment end in catastrophe like that I feel just reassured Brian that he doesn't deserve love or should at least keep his wall up. So sad.

2023-08-03 17:56:12 +0000 UTCgod the prom scene... like anyone asks me to name the most iconic scene in the history of television, this is probably the 1st one I go to (with the original music ofc). I love Brian and Justin so much and I think this is the first time Brian truly lets himself feel what he truly feels for Justin out in that moment and then ofc it was ruined right away :(

2023-05-04 15:19:22 +0000 UTCso happy you made it to the finale and finished season 1 even though this episode crushed me that bashing scene is still so engraved in my brain. when i think of this show, that’s still the very first thing i remember. i watched this show in its entirety in 2008 so about 3 years after it was over so i got to binge it but i can’t imagine the people who watched live who had to wait months for season 2 to see how it all played out. i couldn’t do it. thank god ophelia did 10 episodes for you this past month so you don’t have to wait either. a not so fun fact about the prom dance scene, a lot of those kids had no idea what they were filming so gale (brian) and randy (justin) actually got homophobic comments while filming. it kills me that the first time brian goes out of his way to do something truly romantic, it all goes horribly wrong. that dance and then the scene by the jeep are just so sweet and “ridiculously romantic” as brian calls it. that kiss, their smiles, the intimacy of it all. god it hurts that it’s immediately followed by something so hateful. that final scene with michael coming to the hospital to be with brian and brian crying remembering the moment from the pilot of the three of them running down the hall when gus was born. full circle indeed. it’s just all so painful. i love and hate this episode so much. “you will always be young and you will always be beautiful, you’re brian kinney for fucks sake” is such an iconic line. it really is so troubling that brian has no regard for his own life. that he doesn’t care about dying and wants to die young. he needs to start to love himself more. blake checking himself out of rehab was inevitable and expected but still so tough to watch ted be so hopeful and then be crushed. the reality is blake needs to choose to get clean for himself, not for ted or for them to be together. he needs to want it and he’s just not there yet. hopefully someday he will be. can’t wait for you to start season 2!
