It really is pretty much the first queer show that I can think of to be on mainstream tv. I can't believe it slipped through my fingers and I never watched it!

“I don’t believe in love, I believe in fucking. It’s honest, it’s efficient. You get in and out with a maximum of pleasure and a minimum of bullshit.” Such an iconic quote.
Brian really does have a plethora of issues and he can be such an asshole but I will always love him. He has such interesting relationships with everyone in his life. I can’t wait for you to explore them all.
I’ve been rewatching this show since you posted the first reaction and remembering why it had such an impact on younger me. It doesn’t all hold up well obviously but this was the first queer show I watched and I remember feeling so seen and craving a queer friend group/found family so badly.
Can’t wait for the next two episodes!

I definitely agree. If I remember correctly, the British version, which was a mini-series that came out right before this one, the “Justin” character was only FIFTEEN. And they aged him up for the US version, so I definitely think it was more acceptable since they purposefully aged him up but still didn’t make him 18. Also, don’t think this is a spoiler or anything, but he turns 18 pretty quickly in the show as well. Doesn’t make any more appropriate, but I think that was kinda the mindset at the time. It also definitely comes up in the show and is seen as controversial, but definitely not predatory or "as bad" as it would be portrayed in a show today.
For the 2021 version, the “Justin” character is still in high school as well but they made him 18. So you can definitely tell the different mindset for that now as well.

Oh my God I remember watching this when I was like 15 I never really finished it but it seems very mature now that I'm older also I think we just have to take it how it is the whole 17-year-old I don't think the show made it as taboo and inappropriate as it is now a days I guess back then it just wasn't a big deal but for us being 2023 we look at things very differently now so I understand where you're coming from when you keep bringing his age up but tell the truth I don't think the show even focuses on that like Brian would get in trouble in our days but back then I think it's okay
