Whooooo boy. Ngl that was a hard one to watch 😬 First of all let me fully acknowledge that I’m responding to this 2 years after the fact but I just can’t help myself 😅 Additional context is that I found my way here at the recommendation of a fellow Crazy Ex-GF fan and have been thoroughly enjoying your reactions to that gem of a show (hoping you’ll get more requests for it some day!) as well as Yellowjackets and QAF, just to start, for the past couple of weeks. So thank you for your awesome content! YR is a series I’ve been wholly obsessed with for some time and would say I’ve seen somewhere around 2 dozen different reactions to it. This is partly bc I just love the show that much and liked having a reason to keep rewatching it, but also because people tend to have very different thoughts and opinions on the characters and their actions which I find so interesting. I am used to being on the side of having to defend Simon because for whatever reason, more people that I’ve seen seem to understand Wilhelm’s perspective a bit easier. So having to defend Wilhelm feels a little foreign to me but here we are! I have never before heard anyone suggest that Wilhelm was being manipulative in his actions towards Simon in this ep and the absolute irony of you making that claim while simultaneously feeling bad for MARCUS is making my head spin 🤯 I do understand that Marcus’ red flags were not the most overt and you are by no means alone in mistaking him for this sweet guy and low key wishing Simon would’ve just been with him instead (maybe 10% of reactors I’ve seen felt this way). I say mistakenly bc of how much I’ve read about the subject including one of the writers confirming his character was written as manipulative. If you pay attention to Simon’s body language towards him in all their interactions I feel like it’s pretty telling, and that scene in the previous ep where Marcus completely disregards everything Simon said when he tried to break things off in particular gives me major ick. But back to Wilhelm- certainly a flawed character as every single one is in this series, but poor baby is just trying his best to get through some really tough stuff. I thought they’d done a good job of showing that he suffers from pretty severe anxiety, and so yes, even though WE know that Simon still loves him and is only “with” Marcus bc he’s trying to force himself to move on (which isn’t working), Wille 100% believes that Simon has gotten over him and it takes everything he’s got to suck it up and try to just be nice to him and Marcus at the party. I always feel so bummed for people who don’t enjoy the ending of this ep because that kiss is one of my favorite moments from the whole series. No, we don’t need to feel bad for Marcus since he forced his way into that situation, yes, we’re extremely happy for Wille who FINALLY gets confirmation that Simon does in fact still have feelings for him, and even though it isn’t Simon’s greatest moment, the fact that he loves Wille SO much that he can’t bear to let him leave without kissing him makes for a pretty damn satisfying moment in my book. Also Omar & Edvin’s chemistry is insane and it’s pretty overwhelming in that scene. Ah well. Had to get all that off my chest 🤣 I’m ofc curious to see how your opinions might change from here on but tbh if you don’t like Wille at this point I’m more than a little nervous to watch the S3 reactions 😳

2024-12-28 05:52:04 +0000 UTCI have no idea why, but for some reason whenever I watch Netflix on my laptop it freezes for about 3 seconds when there's about 3 minutes left, it's so weird! But hmm no, it wasn't freezing frequently, only at that part. I totally took the situation of Wilhelm talking to Markus and Simon as him trying to make his presence known to Markus, I didn't think he was trying to be nice and show he accepted it. Almost like when Markus kissed Simon knowing Wilhelm was int he room. It's like they're passive aggressively fighting over Simon lol I have a feeling were going to see this back and forth with them for a while lol

To be fair, Simon was upfront to Markus that he doesn´t feel ready for a serious relationship. Then they agreed to take it slow, and it still became relatively serious so fast. With him kissing him after the game etc. So I feel like despite that Markus was kinda pushing to make it more serious. However, still shitty to kiss Wilhelm behind Markus´s back. I feel the need to defend Wilhelm a bit. Yes, he is absolutely self centered. And often forgets to consider the situation for other people. But he is going through it. And personally I thought the interactions at the ball were mostly fine. He said to Felice that he had to let Simon go. And that´s what he was trying to do. He still considers Simon a friend, so he just wanted to be casual about interacting with him and Markus, and be nice. And show that he is ok with that. As he said "It has to be ok". And I think Wilhelm is also genuinely that much in his head that he not necessarily "knows" that Simon still loves him. So I don´t think he had bad intention when he said "I get it, you don´t love me anymore and moved on, it´s ok". I think he really just wanted to say that he is ok with that and didn´t try to get pity or something. Yes it was awkward, and maybe reiterating it to Simon how ok he is with the situation was a bit much. But they are teenagers and overwhelmed with their feelings and how to deal with all of that. Oh and since you asked. a pale reflection was the beauty standard back in the day. Since workers and the common folk had to work outside and due to that were tanned that wasn´t "desirable". Which is why nobility used powder to make their faces look as pale as possible.
