You noticed the book thing in season 1 already. And yes they are graphic novels called "Deadendia" I think they are getting a reprint soon and the 3rd book is in the works. The author is also producing the show. As far as I know the book story deviates quite a bit from the show too. For example Norma isn´t a huge Pauline fan in the books. Poor Pugsley, we didn´t know that he had lost his magic, but it makes sense since most of Temeluchas left him and now he can only talk. I loved seeing Logs and Barney interact while now officially dating, they are cute. And seeing more of Badyah with Norma is also nice. It´s really great that we are now going to explore more of the Angel side, after we got familiar with the demons in season 1. Atleast it seems that way since Fingers will stick around. Interesting design for an angel by the way, just a hand. The endscene implies that they might want to monitor Pugsley just as much as Courtney. Possibly because they know a demon king was possessing him and they need to make sure he isn´t dangerous.
