Cura Te Ipsum- Thank you so much for another fantastic reaction for this phenomenal episode of Person of Interest, Jessie!! I absolutely love, love, love this episode! It's easily one of my favorite episodes within this season, as well as throughout the entire show. So, so good. :)
First, in answer to your question regarding what Cura Te Ipsum means... Cura Te Ipsum is Latin for "Take care of your own self." A perfect title for such a powerful and heartbreaking episode, because this title and its translation fits Reese's words to Megan Tillman inside the diner scene towards the end so beautifully. Because Reese pleads with Megan to let go and to take care of herself. So that Megan won't lose herself, and so that her sister can keep all good memories of Megan intact. So beautiful!
And now... I absolutely love that we see this darker, and even sadder side of Reese. Once again, we see that Reese sees himself as a monster and killer. As someone who has long since lost the most important piece of his heart that allows him to believe he isn't a monster. When in truth, he is a good man with a good heart. He fights to protect and save innocent people. Not only from being killed or hurt, but also from hurting others who are evil and who deserve to be punished, in order to protect them from becoming the monster he can be for them.
One of my favorite scenes... I absolutely love the scene between Reese and Megan inside the diner, as we see how Reese convinces Megan not to ruin her own life by killing the rapist, by offering to punish him for her so that she won't have to destroy herself. I love how calm and gentle Reese is with the doctor while he pleads with her to let go and to trust in him to help her. I love just how collected he is.
Megan's and her sister's story is so sad, and after hearing that her sister had committed suicide because she couldn't take the pain of what the rapist had done to her... I really, really, really wanted to see Reese punish this rapist just like you did too, and to see him suffer for ruining so many women's lives.
However, this episode's ending actually leaves it open for interpretation as to what Reese winds up doing to him. Which may be maddening, but it's also absolutely brilliant! I really love it!! All we know for certain... is that Reese makes sure this bad guy won't ever harm anyone ever again, and that he won't be able to retaliate against the doctor. And from the dark look in Reese's eyes in the final moments within this episode, as the music is ramping up... we know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this rapist has somehow been punished. I love, love, love this!!!
And then... I also absolutely love the entire scene between Reese and the rapist inside the vacation home. It's easily another of my favorite scenes throughout the entire episode. I love that while you see all lack of emotion on Reese's face as he's talking to the real monster, you can absolutely feel the emotion Reese is suppressing deep down inside. In this scene, and in his scene with Megan while inside the diner. These scenes are absolutely beautiful. John Reese is very mysterious and just phenomenal, which is why I consider his character in Person of Interest to be one of my all time favorite characters in all TV shows and movies too. His character, as well as the actor who plays him. I absolutely love Jim Caviezel!! If I didn't already love Person of Interest before this episode, then I absolutely would afterwards. This episode is among the best of the best. :)
And then... I love the side storyline between Reese and Fusco too. It's very interesting and while Reese seems cold toward towards Fusco and he acts like he doesn't care about him, Reese still steps in to protect Fusco from the drug dealers, and then he tells Fusco he is still working for him in spite of there being a number of other dirty cops he could force to work for him. I truly believe that Reese has already begun to see Fusco as an ally and possibly as a reluctant friend, because he doesn't let Fusco fall or take him down for trying to kill him either time he's tried to do so, so far. And he doesn't look for another dirty cop to replace Fusco with as he could do, and I really love this too. And because Reese doesn't see himself as a good person, I suspect it's easy to understand why he might consider Lionel Fusco worth keeping around and even protecting.
Oh, and in regards to the actress who plays the doctor in this episode, Linda Cardelini... I know her most for playing Hawkeye's wife, Laura Barton in the Avengers movies... Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame. as well as in Hawkeye's show... Hawkeye. And she's also famous for playing Velma in the two live action Scooby Doo movies that also star Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar. I love her too! :)
Thank you for another phenomenal episode and a fantastic reaction, Jessie! I can't wait for more Person of Interest!!! And I'm so happy that you're loving this show so far, more and more. This show only just keeps getting better and better. :) Until next time, my dear friend...
Sincerely,
Heidi
