We actually saw the flashback already in the first episode, in an extended form. But it´s still not elaborated what exactly the context is. Don´t worry about pausing, it´s fine. And about Hulu, I´m pretty sure Hulu is always just buying the license for shortterm timeperiods, but usually they always just extend it. I think Assassination Classroom has been on there for a long time, and it always gets that expiration warning every few months. I really like how much Koro Sensei cares about the students. Despite being their target. It makes you not really want them to succeed, but at the same time, it´s kinda necessary since he will destroy the earth in a year, if he isn´t killed.
