Let’s talk about the Beatles Cartoon!

This was a funny one. Don’t forget to let me know what you all think of the cartoon yourselves!

It’s interesting you mention it won’t get a release on DVD or streaming because the cartoon is very racist. When old Tom and Jerry and the Looney Tunes cartoons were released, there was that disclaimer acknowledging the racist elements. Disney did something similar with their older cartoons. If Warner Bros and Disney could do that for their older cartoons and films, why couldn’t it be done with the Beatles cartoon?

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a full episode of this show! I have, however, seen some YouTube poops based on it, and they were pretty funny. (Hey, surprise Mark Hamill! For those who don’t know, he’s a huge Beatles fan—these cartoons would have aired when he was a teenager—and has a great story about meeting George on a plane in the early 90s.)

We’re the trippy cartoon Beatles

Bo Underwood

I think I’ll end up making a proper YouTube video about that (when I find the time!)

Well put!

Cheers Steven!

The only idea I’d have why George was voiced like that is the voice actor was made aware of George’s Irish family roots. So presto, he’s a leprechaun

I stand corrected, this was actually very interesting indeed, as ever splendid work my friend, happy to support your work, it’s been a long journey from first reading my uncles dusty copy of shout by Philip Norman all those years ago, then revolution in the head, and anthology, and now your channel is about as good as it gets for Beatles related content, informative, often funny, often very moving, but always genuine, great work ❤️😊

I remember when I first watched Yellow Submarine in the 1990s, there were a couple of things that I did think dated it: the monster smoking a cigar and the chase with the indigenous Americans, called by the Beatles "injuns," both in the sea of monsters. Also, I always felt that a famously peace-loving band saying "Beatles to battle" felt a bit off. That said, yes, it's WAY less racist than the Saturday morning cartoon, or even much of the other material from the same period.

One more thing to be said in favour of the Beatles cartoon series was that it was an introduction to the songs and singers themselves, for an audience too young to be into buying records and attending concerts. I remember watching the TV show in 1967, as a seven-year-old boy. Wikipedia says it was on the (Australian) ABC, and it began in 1965. But even in 1967, they repeated the back catalogue enough for me to have watched all the episodes, more than once. I'm sure they were still showing them in 1968 and maybe later. Anyway, I was besotted, and I was word perfect for them all. Later, in the mid 1970's, (sparked by the release of Yesterday as a single) , there was the first Beatles nostalgia revival, and with my background training from a decade previously, now that we were of an age to do so, I and my brothers were all hot off the starting block to dive into the music, the history and the whole experience. I'm now 65, and the goodness has never worn off. Thank you, Beatles cartoons. I know you were cheap, inaccurate and racist, but in the end you done good.

Great video! I watched the Beatles Cartoon few years ago on YT and Internet Archive. It is so zany and outdated. Cool to see how The Beatles Cartoon is a precursor or prototype to the Yellow Submarine film. I wish that Apple Corp and Beatles estate greenlit a modern Beatles cartoon in the future. I am already happy to see how talented Beatles fan are with the amount of fanart and fan animation we have seen 💓

Great video Elliot! If you’re feeling extra generous, in the next video you should include a small tidbit about your thoughts on the recent released pictures of the actors playing The Beatles in the upcoming biopics. I would love to hear what you think based on the single images so far. Personally I think Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan look fantastic, Harris Dickenson looks good, and Joseph Quinn looks…. The worst to say the least. Anywho just a small possible suggestion!

What a nice video you have made, Elliott I hope you will enjoy your vacation and I'm looking forward for the Psychedelic Experiences video
