Bonus Video: A look back on 'The Beatles Rock Band' video game

Hello lovely Patrons!
Bonus video for July is out and it's on the spectacular 2009 video game The Beatles Rock Band.
This was really great for me to look back on this game I used to own and discover how much care and effort went into making one of the riskiest but coolest releases in modern Beatles history.
Did any of you used to own this game? Let me know in the comments to this Patreon post, I'd love to hear your stories.
Thanks for another month of support!

Why would buying the game and all of the gear again feel silly to you? I think you were really onto something with that concept of physically playing the game again. Another great vid none the less! I will always appreciate Beatles Rock Band content of any kind:)

The Beatles Rock Band was the reason I became a Beatles fan. I had only heard the big songs like “Can’t Buy Me Love” but when I played the whole game it deepened my love for the greatest band of all time. Now in 2025, I’ve been working on a massive project charting every Beatles song in chronological order for drums for a Guitar Hero fan game called Clone Hero. There’s also a big community project making custom songs for The Beatles Rock Band, working on making the whole discography playable in the game. Love your videos, Elliot. Peace and love.

This game is when I actually became a huge Beatles fan. It was the perfect storm I think for my generation in 2009 to become fans. The Anthology documentary was airing on VH1 Classic in America that summer pretty much every weekend. I remember going to Target and buying a Beatles poster (Live at the BBC cover) and 2 cds Past Masters and Abby Road. My dad, who was also a huge Beatles fan was excited when I got home and showed him what a bought. My best friend Zach bought the game that day, and we along with our other best friend, Trevor played this game countless times and have so many memories playing it. Like one night after a few drinks. we just started making up our own werid Al lyrics. like Baby's wet diaper for Paperback writter.

Well, had this been a YouTube video I would've delved more into those aspects but I hope you can appreciate how much history and lore there is attached to this game and that I couldn't possibly dive into everything. This video already took me longer than normal for a Patreon bonus video so do try to keep expectations in check!

I would’ve liked to hear you go a little more in depth about the game’s tracklisting and how certain fan favorite songs weren’t included. Like, when I played this game as a kid I was very disappointed when I found out my favorite Beatles song “Love Me Do” wasn’t in the game. But there are other glaring omissions from The Beatles’ discography like She Loves You, Help, From Me To You, and even Hey Jude! Plus, my favorite Beatles album is Help!, and it only got one stinking song in the game with “Ticket To Ride”! Revolver is also very underrepresented with a grand total of 3 songs. That total rises to 4 if you include the rather odd addition of Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows from the Love soundtrack album, which I’m also surprised you didn’t mention. I was also expecting you to talk about the rather large fan modding community that this game has. Fans have been adding countless previously cut songs into the game’s roster that even goes into The Beatles’ solo careers! There has been a great fan demand for a remaster of this game, but due to Harmonix being in company limbo and the rights and licensing being all split up, compounded with The Beatles’ heavy protection of their own legacy, it would take a miracle for such a thing to happen.

I bought all that shit again second hand around 2 years ago and as silly as it might have been I got really into it. It all takes up a lot of room and I had to find a guy that makes replacement parts for the guitar so definitely not a casual hobby. I still have it all and sits proudly in the lounge room collecting dust.
