Hey everybody,
The winning topic for this month's bonus video was Diving into Paul McCartney's '1964 | Eyes of the Storm' and this was an absolutely delightful video to make!
Let me know if you also bought yourself a copy because there's some absolutely wonderful stuff in this collection of photos.
Hope you enjoy it and thanks again for being Patrons.
E.
I grabbed it because Costco in Canada had it for $57! What an amazing deal!!

The photo of the policeman with his gun, and Paul’s caption, struck me as very fascinating. Just the other day, I was looking into the Beatles’ views on guns, specifically Paul, as I remember seeing something about him attending a protest against gun violence. Seeing this now, and getting some more of his thoughts on firearms, really makes me feel like I’m in good company as someone who also hates them.

Was excited to hear that the exhibition's coming to the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia after it wraps up in London.
It's a terrific gem of a museum (great glass collection) - I used to live around years ago, and it's within driving distance of where I'm at now. Will be road-tripping there when it opens.
"The Lyrics" was an enjoyable read, too. Some of the stories are well-treads and some songs are expanded upon more than others, but about as close to an autobiography as we'll get from Paul. Glad it exists.

Also, re: the others' photos. There is the iconic photo that Ringo took of a car full of HS students looking at them, which has been recreated by the "students" today - I wonder if that is one that he took with the camera he was given.

Beth Storey - you actually made me feel a little jealous, wishing I'd seen the exhibition too. Elliot - I bought myself "The Lyrics" for Christmas & also "Eyes of the Storm," as my gift to myself from the proceeds of selling our NH house. I loved this video SOOO much! I too have read everything Paul has written in the book, and feel about the photos much as you've described. In 1964 I was living in northern NJ, and remember sitting across the river from the City, at the Alpine boat basin, thinking they were RIGHT THERE. I'm so glad to be here to relive those wonderful times through Paul's eyes.

I went to the exhibition that goes along with this book the day it opened and it was INCREDIBLE. There were audio descriptions all around the space and you could listen to Paul talk about specific photographs or talk more broadly about a time or place. Of course he’s telling his stories as he loves to do, but a lot were new things I’d never heard him talk about. It was a very poignant experience seeing the space all laid out like that, full of the young faces, many of whom aren’t around any more. I kept thinking how nice it might have been for Julian Lennon and Giles Martin to see these lovely care free photographs of their young parents. It was really special and I feel the book does a good job of recreating the exhibition.

I was given “The Lyrics” for christmas last year and loved reading through that book. Only just ordered “Eyes of the Storm” (this video served as a reminder that I need to read it) and I’m very excited to read through it!
