Other top 2022 albums I would recommend: Alvvays - Blue Rev (my favorite of the year) Cate Le Bon - Pompeii Mitski - Laurel Hell

Great video! I feel the same way about that Animal Collective album. It feels like the first one i've wanted to revisit from them after Centipede Hz. Beach Boys post-Smile albums is a great topic. Finally checked out the same ones you did back in 2020/2021 and also found that Sunflower and Surf's Up are highlights.

The white album reflects the band in all their multi-directional glory at the time, which I love. Wild Honey Pie is awesome. I would just substitute Sadie and Bungalow Bill with You Know My Name (Look Up The Number), which is brilliant and funny. I once requested “Solar System” from Beach Boys Love You album from a local radio station, imagine my panic when they actually played it, which culminated in the dj saying “We will never play that song again! 😀 💫

I have a totally unfounded theory that Love You was Brian doing literal self-parody/self-sabotage in the wake of Mike & crew turning the band into a nostalgia act. It's... one of the more deranged things I've written & posted lately... Also the DIY vibes of Wild Honey are a big part of the charm for me but, fair 🙃 Also-also, HARD agree on the White Album. Getting rid of the bloated rollercoaster pacing totally misses the point. Going that indulgent on a double album is something no popular band had done before, so (for better or worse) that's just another thing we now consider a trope the Beatles more or less invented.
