[Early Access!] New video: Every George Harrison Album Ranked Worst to Best

Well everyone, we're finally here.

This is the hardest I've ever worked on a video and I'm immensely proud of it.

Please enjoy this early access to my video on the music of the great George Harrison (ad free especially for you folks).

Thanks so much for you continued support during these last few dry months, I can't express enough how much I appreciate it.

[Early Access!] New video: Every George Harrison Album Ranked Worst to Best

Comments

It's been a George life for me. I was 14 years old (and already a George fanatic for half of my life) when I got to see him on tour at the Nassau Coliseum. And fortunate again to see him perform at Madison Square Garden for the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration (aka "Bobfest"). AND. . . I got to meet Olivia Harrison at one of her book signing events at a Barnes & Noble. I shared with her George had just recently appeared in a dream I had. She said, "Oh, you had a visitation." I loved your video, Elliot -- my introduction to your very fine work. Your insights, critiques, love, and tribute mustache was far more than a nostalgic diversion. I was also very impressed by how you seem to have personally embraced George's spirituality and incorporated into your own cosmic view. As much as I loved George from the age of 7 on, I often cringed at what I perceived as his religiosity. I was influenced by the "Rolling Stone wall" criticisms (fuck you, Dave Marsh!) of George. With age and life experience I have come to appreciate and admire George's depth more and more. He wasn't so much ahead of his time -- after all, he was learning from yogic philosophy that goes back thousands of years -- as we, modernity, have fallen so far behind it.

Loved it! Absolutely phenomenal, a true love letter to George. Can't wait for Ringos turn 😉

Chrysa Anagnostopoulou

I don't think I caught that!

Elliot Roberts

Just curious - and appreciate this may end up in another video if you do deluxe editions - but did you struggle at all with the 50th anniversary version of Isn’t It A Pity Version 2? There’s a section seemingly way out of time and it drives me *mad*!

Grafty

Wow, what an achievement and what a beautiful moving tribute to the great man himself. I was tearful at several points watching this and I think you did him justice. Bravo.

Beth Storey

Finally made time to watch it and simply, I'm stunned. I've always had a harder time at grasping and understanding George and his cavalcade of nuances, much more so than John and Paul. But this is truly a masterpiece in exploring the man and his music. Had me in tears at multiple points and I'm so grateful I've had the opportunity to support the making of such a project. On the meta side of things, your video making and editing skills are steadily rising and it's super impressive to see! That Ringo announcement really took me by suprise and I absolutely can't wait. The scope of this video also makes me dread the inevitable 16hour marathon that the Beatles ranking will be, for which I also can't wait. Keep up the good work, this was a treat!

Pat D

Now I’ll calmly wait for the ringo video

Mickey Gold

Ooh! I see. Will do a re-upload before I put it on YouTube. It’s obviously meant to be the start of Cloud Nine and I have no idea why it’s applause lol.

Elliot Roberts

What a lucky gal your mother-in-law is!

Elliot Roberts

Thanks Tony!

Elliot Roberts

It sounds like the perfect book for me!

Amazing video, Elliot! It was really engaging to hear your different takes on the albums, especially your more critical take on Cloud 9 and praise of Dark Horse. The in-depth contextualization of the lyrics and George’s musical evolution was also very well-done. You also brought up a fascinating point about George’s “writing songs for himself just as much as he was writing for others” - you can really trace his spiritual journey and self-image throughout the albums. Those ten albums are as autobiographical as I Me Mine. Again, you’ve outdone yourself. As for the ominous hint at a Ringo ranking, you are entering a land of strangeness. One thing to note is that while Paul, John, and George tried to distance themselves from the Beatles in their way, Ringo leaned hard on his Beatles heritage (at the start, at least).

Peter Melling

Fair play my friend; that was excellent work.

Dan Hinchliffe

Incredible! Just wanna note @39:00 when you introduce the title track of Cloud 9, the audio is if possibley a live album? It's just applause. Rather jarring! I could have missed something though.... Otherwise, what a video! Incredible work my friend! 😁

Eli Gallagher

Wow this was such a fantastic video!! Congratulations on finishing this nearly three-hour long masterpiece - your presentation style was so engaging and easy to follow that I hardly noticed it was that long! The way you put each album into context is so smoothly done; I learned quite a few interesting facts along the way. And of course your humour is great, I was laughing so many times throughout the video, especially at the end there :’D But the best part is how your appreciation and love for George’s music really comes across! Which is very relatable and infectious at the same time 😊 Already know that this wasn’t my last time watching it! PS: I really love your George outfit for the occasion :D

Paula

Yeah the ending had me rolling 😂😂😂

Gaby G

Great as always, Elliot! My mother-in-law went to see the Dark Horse tour as a twenty something and she loved it. She still talks about Billy Preston lol. I appreciate that you mentioned that the crowds loved it because she and all her friends definitely did! I also appreciated the love for the self-titled album.

Emily Walton

Thank you William for addressing Elliott's hilarious lip-syncing to "Circles" LOL I'd love to watch that on an endless loop when I need to smile :)

Tony Dickens

OMG! I just finished YOUR masterpiece review and am blown away by this gorgeous love letter to the late, great George Harrison. I'm so happy you created this youtube channel and patreon for us fans. Your great talent with words in describing just why we love these songs so much is truly a blessing. I remember listening to ATMP for the first time on an Easter Sunday in the early 70s and falling into a greater love for Harrison than I already had. I was so happy that he was finally heard and appreciated for the great talent he always was. This took tremendous effort on your part. I know it's a labor of love on your part, but thank you for expressing all of this so very well. Your post Beatle ranking videos are my only source for information from now on and I will be recommending them to fellow fans. Bless you and yours always and forever. Namaste :)

Tony Dickens

Have you heard about The McCartney Legacy 1969-1973? The book is an amazing deep dive into Paul’s post Beatles life and recordings. Its over 600 pages of highly researched details. Its a beast of a bok, but if anyone will enjoy it, its you!

Kate Harrington

Worth the wait! Another fantastically in depth look at one of music’s great artists. I adore your videos. They are not only interesting and intelligent, but they are extremely well produced. You work is insightful and funny; you easy to watch and a refreshing to most rambling youtubers.

Kate Harrington

LOVE your review of LITMW!! What a great analysis of each song on the album! I've always loved "Be Here Now" (led me to purchasing the book as well in the 70s). I read an interview with George in Goldmine magazine years later where he said he regretted not releasing "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" as a single. Such a catchy tune! My fave track is the title track which I felt should have also been a single. I felt the same way about "That Is All" as well, but over the years grew to love and appreciate it as well.

Tony Dickens

Wow, I just lost it at the end tag. 💀

Bennett Billard

On "I Remember Jeep," it should be noted that on May 12th, George, John & Yoko did overdub handclaps for it at EMI.

Bennett Billard

at 34:35 i was dying laughing lololololool

William Reardon

I knew this was going be good great even. I never knew how vital passionate and profound yet still with humour and candour. To call this just a review countdown of albums is like calling George Harrison just a Beatle. Like George after that period you’ve taken that form somewhere else made it personal, mature and brought the audience to you. George Harrison might of said once it’s sometimes hard to express with words what you wish to in your head and heart. That is true but what you have done here with your words, expression and presentation in this piece is as close as you can get. Well done.

Alessandro Milite

Just over an hour into this and had to comment. Wow!!!! This is the career retrospective Harrison absolutely deserves! Such thoughtful, intelligent analysis. You are to be commended for the loving effort you've given all your post Beatle ranking videos. Though I'm 62 and have been listening to these albums since my teen years I learn so much from your fresh, new perspective. Finally, someone who loves Dark Horse as much as I do! I far prefer it to Cloud 9. You're so right that Cloud 9 is George at a distance. You're also quite funny. Loved the way you capture the strange, quirky things from Harrison that I've thought, but no one before has brought it out in the open and discussed it before till you. The Jai Sri Krishna dance is a highlight. That track has always been a joyful listen for me as well.

Tony Dickens

Wow. Self-titled is the one my dad has, but I never hear anyone talking about, so it's cool to see you rank it so high.

Eric Cheung

Perfect, Elliot. What a fantastic video. Might have to throw on the '79 album today just for how great "Love Comes to Everyone" is.

Chris Katella

Loved this, and your enthusiasm was infectious. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Grafty

Absolutely phenomenal, a true love letter to George, can’t wait for Ringos turn 😉

Chrysa Anagnostopoulou

Half-way through it, will comment properly later, but I just wanted to add about George’s slide guitar, Guy Chambers did a video on TikTok recently about making the Robbie Williams track ‘Angles’. Apparently they did ask George to do the guitar part, but he (unsurprisingly) said “no”: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYatXSc3/

Sarah Parker-Shemilt

Loved the video I’m still crying 😭 also 10/10 for that little post credits scene 😂

JackJack_1479

Elliot, this video was OUTSTANDING. The amount of thought, dedication, and - frankly - love that you put into this video is astounding, and very much appreciated. Also, I was planning on commenting with a reference to some funny quip you made, but you had me laughing so many times that I quickly lost track of each individual joke. I laughed, I cried, 11/10 video.

Gaby G

You dropping this for the patrons on my wedding day…a real gift for this George girlie. Thank you for your hard work on this video - it clearly pays off😌
