Bonus Video: Weird: The Al Yankovic Story — An underwhelming biopic spoof

I too was underwhelmed after being excited for Weird. I’ve never seen Dewy Cox, so I had nothing to compare it with. But I expected more absurdity & humor. It seemed to be trying too hard for the laugh. I chuckled a little here & there, but don’t understand the people who said they laughed out loud. I enjoyed the angle (always loved the Funny or Die clip), but the whole second half was just not funny.

the thing I have seen happening with the biopic explosion, especially when you are making a film about a big name, that has meaning in the lives of many people, is that they are portraying what the apparent image of that person is, or what the filmmaker thinks the public would like to see and consume. I am a huge queen fan, and I always laugh when you mention Bohemian Rhapsody because I agree with you- it's not good. Why? Well, you have pointed out the discrepancy between the character and the way he was portrayed- but as a fan, the only way I can look at this film is a bad representation of what queen actually was. Queen was not this messy group of guys, who became famous and sometimes wrote astounding masterpieces. Freddie was not queen, they all were. Just like the Beatles, people are always asking “lennon or McCartney” , and I think it's very damaging for the image of the band. Ringo’s sense of melody, that transformed the drums from a percussion instrument to a complimentary force for the other instruments. George Harrison who...well I will not even start an argument on this topic because this comment is already getting really long( the amount of love and respect I have for him....) So what I am trying to say is that in bohemian rhapsody, they gave us mainly the commercial part of queen, without the actual depth of the band, without the drive of roger taylor, the wisdom, emotion and philosophical views of brian may, the precision and wit of john deacon and the complexity and beauty of Freddie...and that hurts because biopics should be for the fans and for the people who may be driven by curiosity and in the end fall in this eternal spiral of inspiration that music gives us. in queen I always like to say that john deacon is the bones, roger is the blood, brian is the soul and Freddie the heart and we did not get that. To end this, it would be nice to step back from this “magical” formula that a lot of biopics tend to have and just dare to be creative and imaginative, just as the people we have in our minds and hearts were with their art. thank you for the videos<3

I tried to watch it when it realised and I was completely disappointed with it about how unfunny it was, I had to switch off after 30 minutes. The movie has got some audience awards, and I wonder if this film works better when you are watching with a group?

Yeahhhhh, I was excited about it when it was first announced but the more I saw about it the less I was interested. I remember when Behind the Music was a kinda notable show on VH1 here in the US and they did a Weird Al episode where they kind of jokingly hinted at Al's highs and lows (link here if anyone's interested: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x36id7y). Plenty of opportunity, like you said, where the movie could've used the career highs and lows as a jumping-off point for a plot and storyline, but that didn't happen. Oh well, hope people who enjoyed it enjoyed it and, well, there you have it.
