This. I've been up to this
Actually a bit beyond this now, I took this photo this morning, and - many hours later - it's built and (mostly) functional! With a fair bit of work to go, still, getting the drives installed and recognized, getting Windoze installed, getting *allllll* of my drivers and software and 3D content sorted... But the computer part of it is, finally, all here and working.
Phew.
My most expensive computer build to date (this is lucky number three), but also by far my most powerful. Renders that once took hours should, in theory, now take minutes. Not even exaggerating on that; other folks have been kind enough to benchmark their own PCs using my preferred 3D software, and according to their specs, the benchmarking scene should render in about 5 minutes on a 2070 SUPER; on my old, current computer, attempting to render the same scene took an hour to reach 20% completion before I had to throw in the towel.
Did I say I was excited? Because I very much am. Not just for what it will do for my workflow going forward, but the possibilities it can open up alongside my usual work. New render engines become viable, new techniques, and I can spend more time actually working on scenes than I spend on trying to get them to render!
It's a bit tricky to juggle setting this up and still getting stuff done in the meantime, and I don't want to fully unplug my old computer just yet. But with any luck you'll start seeing my first experiments with the new setup in probably just a week or two at most. ^^
