Sadly the show got cancelled before they wanted to really delve into River the way they wanted so instead we get this chopped up half-assed version of her story. Which kinda sucks tbh.

Jayne has his own ambitions and beliefs which dont just gel with the crew or make things easier. Which is realistic! Even in an office environment people dont just default to the same side. Jayne is a pirate! Pirates are so often portrayed as rascals but Jayne's town and Ariel demonstrate how morally complex it is and how fragile a crew can be. Simon and River genuinely put them all in extra danger. It's not their fault but if anyone died due to their presence that's a toll. Jayne actually protects the crew, wants them to make real money.

2023-10-02 19:51:43 +0000 UTCI can understand Mal's reaction to Jayne calling the feds on River and Tam, but i also understand Jayne... he was stabbed by River, and Mal choose them over him... even though he has been on the crew for years. calling the Feds was a bit drastic, but the fact that the whole crew is wanted because of River and Tam and that she goes around stabbing people and is extremly unpredictable. its complicated. seems like you forgot that she stabbed Jayne halfway trough the episode. but i think Mal did the right ting. gave Jayne a HUGE scare.. and is standing up for his crew in thick and thin.
