X-MEN - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to X-Men! I loved meeting all of these new (to me) characters and can't wait to see where it goes next! Since I'm still making my way through the MCU, I'm not planning on watching the X-Men movies every week so that I can still fit other movies in, but I know there's a lot of interest in these movies so here's the first one :) I'm curious, who's your favorite X-Men character? I'm loving Wolverine so far, but my favorite could definitely change as I see more of the movies. Enjoy!

Think you have enough movie knowledge now for Deadpool :)

Rippan

YES! VENOM! Love it!

CheshireKat528

Make sure you watch Venom 1 and 2 before you watch Spiderman - No Way Home, and you can probably now watch Dr. Strange 2.

Great reaction! So you posed the question who is our favorite X-Men. I have two but unfortunately neither were big parts of this movie. My first favorite is Kitty Pryde who we see a small cameo of when Logan first wanders into Professor X's office. She is the girl who goes back to grab her book and then runs through the door. My other favorite is a guy named Gambit who was not in this movie, and it's been years since I've watched these but I do not believe he has a huge role in the X-Men movies. I have one scene in my mind that I know he's a part of but I don't remember if he did more than that. As far as who we have seen so far in this first movie and really focused on, I think Rogue is my favorite. I had a huge crush on Anna Paquin when I was younger and I think just like you mentioned the fact that she has to live her life never having true physical contact with another human outside of gloves or some type of barrier just breaks my heart for her. I couldn't imagine living life without ever having the ability to kiss a loved one or even having to fear during a hug that I may accidentally touch their exposed skin and hurt them.

I... I... I completely missed it. I honestly didn't even think to be on the lookout for a cameo!

Yeah this series is a huge part of Marvel. I love Rogue and Logan, and for an early 2000s movie, I really enjoyed this one. Mutants, in case you haven't noticed, haven't been in the MCU yet. That's like you said mainly because of legal issues. Certain companies owned the rights to certain characters and groups. Fox Studios owned X-Men until recently, so Marvel can incorporate these stories of mutants into the MCU, which is why it's good to watch these. So Wolverine has those metal claws, and his entire skeleton are covered in Adamantium. So its another indestructible metal, along with the likes of Vibranium from Wakanda. So his indestructible form, combined with his healing, makes him very hard to kill because there's very few things that can do him in. And yeah he's got very animalistic behaviors as well. He growls when he gets angry, and has that sense of danger and literally sniffs like an animal. So yeah his powers are very cool too. Rogues power involves draining life force, so that's why when Logan saved her at the very end, it actually hurt Logan much more. The machine drained her life force, which is why she now has the white streak in her hair. So yeah it took a lot to bring her back. That's also why Logan had a bunch of wounds re open on his body. His healing is being drained, so his healing is being undone, making wounds on his body critical. I love that moment, cause it gives that feeling of tragedy, for both Rogue and Logan. First we aren't worried cause Logan can heal and we think it'll save Rogue. But then we see the white hair, meaning it might be too late. Then when she wakes up, he is extremely weak and bleeding. Poor Rogue had to be saved by someone else suffering. That's not her fault, but yeah her powers are a bit of a curse sometimes more than a gift. Physical contact is so important, it literally is essential, even something like a hug. She can't have that without bundling up. Magneto is a great character. His origins, suffering in a concentration camp, a terrible evil done by humans, hardened his soul. He despises humans, as they made him suffer. Now he wants them to suffer. Not as equals, but mutants being superior, above humans. He is kind of acting like the very people who tortured him. Can't wait for X2 Addie!

Did you miss the Stan Lee cameo? I guess in the edit you can have a little fun.

Even though it’s a Stand-alone movie Logan is got to be my ultimate favorite X-Men movie. To this day the trailer Alone gives me goosebumps.

Eric

Agreed - don't overthink anything timeline wise, or even plot wise. Accept each movie on it's own because there is literally no consistency in plot movie to movie. Also, accept that later movies are absolutely horrible and just try to enjoy them for what they are.

The Dingo

I have to disagree. The Dolph Lundgren Punisher really started it all!

The Dingo

Ah...X-Men. Technically, 'BLADE' started the whole Marvel superhero movie thing; but, I always consider this one the beginning of Marvel's slow rise to power. It wouldn't become concrete until 'IRON MAN' launched the MCU some 8 years later; but still, this one had its moments. The fanboy in me couldn't help but wince at...everything they got "wrong"...but the inner 6-year old in me had a mile-wide smile seeing Cyclops and Professor X (two of my three favorite X-Men characters) up on the screen for the first time. Obviously, Hugh Jackman steals the show. As for the rest, I'd say 'X-MEN 2', 'X-MEN FIRST CLASS', 'X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST', 'LOGAN', and both DEADPOOL movies are the cream of the crop here. Either way, I'm here for the ride.

That first Nightcrawler scene was the best X-MEN thing I'd seen in a film until Colossus appeared in Deadpool.

I saw this movie in the theater but I'd forgotten that Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) does not appear as herself in this film, as I recall seeing her cameo in "X-Men First Class". The fight choreography did a fine job of using the characters' individual strengths.

*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ADDIE! Some of the X-men movies DO HAVE POST CREDITS SCENES!ALWAYS CHECK😉😁* Loved this reaction!!! For the record Gandalf was not Magneto. Magneto was Gandalf. X-Men was released about a year 1/2 Before LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring. For us we got to see Sir Ian’s talent for playing the “villain” before he was keeping demons from passing over a bridge 😜

CheshireKat528

I'm glad you enjoyed the first X-Men movie, Addie :) The series is kinda uneven in my opinion, but the first one is very good and the second one is fantastic. As for my favorite X-Man, I was always partial to Nightcrawler, who you'll meet soon.

Patrick Egan

The simplest way is to just watch the X-Men movies in the order they were released.

Patrick Egan

Mutant Monday!! Growing up, I read a load of my friend's comics and became a fan instantly! Wolverine was an instant favorite because I'm a Michigan fan. My very first tattoo is of Wolverine! Wolverine and Sabretooth have a long history together! A different movie to come dives into that. To the editor or editing Addie ....43:56 ... Blue shirt.. sunglasses... This is a blast going through these movies again!! Take care, Addie!!

Billy Dancel

I'm always so happy when you react to Marvel or DC movies....as far as the X-Men movies go don't try and figure out the timeline because they redo everything over and over it gets confusing.

Jayson Phillips

I would say watch the X-Men movies in their original release date order, just like the MCU. The only thing she needs to be mindful of at this point is Deadpool 2. Deadpool 2 has a big spoiler for the John Wick movies in the opening credits. So watch the first John Wick BEFORE Deadpool 2 and obviously watch both Deadpool movies before the 3rd one comes out in 2024😜😆 Here is the release order/watch order: X-Men X2 X-Men: The Last Stand X-Men Origins: Wolverine X-Men: First Class The Wolverine X-Men: Days of Future Past Deadpool X-Men: Apocalypse Logan Deadpool 2 X-Men: Dark Phoenix The New Mutants It probably couldn’t hurt to watch a handful of episodes of X-Men:The Animated Series as well. In a couple of future MCU installments there is a fun reference to the Animated Series and she might appreciate it. Would a list of some good episodes to watch be something anyone is interested in seeing Addie watch, including Addie herself??? I know superhero content shouldn’t take over the channel, but the animated episodes are so short that they could make fun little quick and easy videos for her and not a lot of people react to them. Just an idea for future content 😁

CheshireKat528

Yup the Xmen movies do have their own order, I'm not sure how you should watch them in regards to the MCU, so maybe somebody can fill in that information, all I know is you want to watch them all before this Deadpool 3 movie comes out....I think or maybe before the 2nd doctor strange?? I can't rememebr exaclty.

Never having read the comics, I knew nothing about the X-Men when I went to see this movie in the theater in 2000. My expectations were low, so I was thoroughly surprised at how good the movie was and how well it introduced the major characters! It's still one of my favorites. 👍

Phil Stubblefield

Speaking of Bryan Singer, I also suggest Public Access (1993), The Usual Suspects (1995), Apt Pupil (1998), Valkyrie (2008), and Jack the Giant Slayer (2013).

Alex Tan

Happy Monday, Addie. X-Men (2000) is one the movies that started the entire superhero genre craze, and it's still going strong. My favorite X-Men character is Deadpool, although he's in training. PS, Hot Fuzz (2007), Airplane! (1980), and Rush Hour (1998) are in a three-way tie in your latest poll.
