It makes sense cause Cofagrigus had said that the trainer forced him to evolve, lied about not having enough candies for the rest of the pokemon, and forcing them to battle other trainers against their own will. To finally possess the human would be his perfect revenge for one reason: The human will now be trapped in his own casket this time around. Also, the fact that the human is complaining about being forced to become a Haunter is pretty hypocritical on his part.
