Update

Hey everyone,

For some unknown reason, my son decided to climb a tree during lunch break at school… and then jump down.

The result? I got an urgent call from the school and spent the last five hours in the ER.

Thankfully, nothing's broken—just a sprained ankle. We're now waiting for the discharge papers so we can head home.

I won’t be able to write a chapter today. After hours in the ER, I’m exhausted and a nervous wreck.

I’ll make it up to you during the week—I’ll still be posting five chapters.

Thanks for understanding!

Is it a right of passage for boys? 40 years ago my brother did the same at about that age, he broke his arm, and it seemed to teach him some caution. Hope your son heals well and gives you less grey hairs {{hug}}

Boys will be boys, if they didn't do crazy stupide shit the would be man. Brace yourself, it's going to be a few hard scary years.

Thank you

Je peux pas en vouloir au petit parce que moi aussi je sautais des arbres quand j'étais petit. Bon rétablissement à lui ❤️

Good idea. I'll use this logic to prevent him from jumping down any more trees.

Oh wow. My condolences. I understand the tree climbing impulse. I did that a lot when I was younger. Never thought to jump out of any though. I was the cautious sort who liked my limbs intact enough to climb more the next day. 🤣

Lol! Hence the warning. Here's what my parents landed on which worked really well. Keep that curious, inquisitive mind busy exploring things both cerebral and physical. So I was in track, basketball, and tennis in addition to violin lessons and a concert group, also did extra chem classes and writing assignments, and supervised tinkering in biology labs. We were in a tiny, tiny college community but if they could have, they'd have put me in groups with other smart, active teenagers working on world issues, improving social skills, and enticing my brain with new puzzles. I wasn't ADHD but I was ever curious and had tons of energy. Directing that energy into safe and expanding outlets was the key.

Don't scare me! He'll be twelve in 3 months. Teenagehood is right around the corner.

I know you must be beyond frazzled. The reason is probably because he could. I myself as a fifth grader was happily imitating a flying squirrel on the school's jungle gym apparatus until it all went wrong and I ended up with a broken wrist. 🤷 Turned into a huge lesson on consequences and "thinking things through" (to quote my exasperated parents). I didn't really see the issue, I knew exactly what went wrong and how to fix it. Warning: Teenagehood only exacerbated that mindset. Rest!
