Work in progress Wednesday

This month was a bit of a funny one, with a lot more faffing digitally than usual. I knew I wanted to use the same witch’s hat throughout the series, so there was a fair amount of illustrative ‘retrofitting’ to do!
I started off by sketching up a little cobra and traced into Inkscape:

I then spent a bit of time working out how much detail I could fit in whilst still being visually effective, and started looking at some colour options.
As is often the way I selected the simplest design on the far right!

Next up I had a lot of fun trying to work out how the snake and hat should sit together. The lesson I learned here is that it really is a million times easier to create a whole image from scratch rather than trying to splice two together!!

Wtf even is that snake tail on the far left!!
I settled on option 3 in the end and I’m pretty pleased with the end result, even if getting there was a right headache!
At this point I had a pure moment of madness and veered off in a whole new direction:

I ended up filing this under ‘chill out and stop doing too much’ but I do really like this flower/stick combo which I might well use for something else at some point in the future!!
Next up was colours! I originally designed in fuchsia then really started to lean towards a pale coral, but decided it was time to go for a broader selection of colours than I usually do.

To my surprise green was the winning colour, and the final design was selected!!

I hope you enjoyed this month’s WIP! More coming next month!!
Love Sarah
