I still have copies to sell. Maybe I will gift them in a giveaway or to higher Patrons. I must think properly for a way to use them :3
So here is Taras and his Dolphin mate who helped him to find the land he was searching for. It's a legend about the origins of my town, Taranto. :D
Here is the story :3
The legend says that the young Taras, son of the nymph Satyria and the sea god Neptune, was at the command of a Greek fleet when it landed at a river mouth on an unknown territory.
The first thing he did when he stepped on solid ground, was to thank his father by sacrificing some animals, thus propitiating the building of a city on the new land.
During one of those sacrifices, he saw a dolphin jumping out of the river: a beautiful creature that charmed everyone with its agility and its long, steel-colored tail.
Taras read this magnificent apparition as Neptune’s encouragement to build the city, later called Saturo to homage his mother Satyria, or his wife Satureia.
Even today, the town bears the same name.
A few centuries later, the Spartans, led by Falanto, landed on these same shores, and they conquered the city and established an aristocratic government. But this is another story.
Getting back to our Taras, the poor man fell into the river while he was making new sacrifices for his father and, despite the efforts of those who were at the ritual, his body was never found.
It was clear to everyone that Neptune had taken Taras with him to welcome his son into the ranks of the heroes. A temple was dedicated to Taras, and his devoted citizens worshipped him as a god.
On the Greek coins of Taranto, Taras is portrayed naked, wearing only a red chlamys on his shoulder, while riding the dolphin and jumping out the waves. The young man has the trident, symbol of Neptune, in the left hand and, in the right one, a sacrificial vase. His whole legend in a single effigy.
