The River and the Road: The Ways (Part 2)

Hey, look: shooty-thinky, and magical-thinky!

This week, we add in two ways that take advantage of a character's senses, be it their sense of the Worlds as they are, or their sense of what lies beneath the surface. Next week, we get to the last Way: the Academic, the one who has enough brains for everyone. For now: arrows, and things that shoot that are more complex than arrows.

The Outlander

Those who are called Outlanders are individuals who exist in two places at once: where they stand, and the world beyond that point. This isn’t meant to be some sort of profound but abstruse statement, it’s more that it’s the simplest way of describing the state of mind they inhabit. Their body is in one place, yet their perception allows their mind to travel beyond, into a world where every bit of sensory input is a point of interest to explore, an important sign to note, a clue to what might be ahead of them, or coming to find them. They are people who neither look nor listen, but reach, feel and grip with all their available senses. This is the reason for their name: these folks don’t tend to stay in cities for long- too loud, too distracting, too full of other people’s business. On the River or the Road, they can be their best selves, often serving as the eyes and ears of an entire group of travellers.

The Seer

The Converged Worlds are home to many peoples, many creatures, untold amounts of life and magic that is growing and cross pollination, and many, many subtle forces that surge and teem invisibly beneath, between and throughout. Not many can even discern the presence of these subtle forces through natural talent, and it takes time and care, and a lot of painstaking and imprecise observance and ritual process. Those who develop such an ability, either by practice or accident, are forever changed. Because even one thin obstruction removed from the senses brings the world into yet more focus, and a change in perspective has a way of changing a mind. Just like seeing things that other people don’t starts to get warying, especially when the difference in views is profound.

Next Week: I edit and compile all these into a more readable, central format, because now, we're actually starting to get a game together here.
