Beta testing for the campaign syncing feature
Added 2021-09-01 13:05:05 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
Life has been getting in the way a bit these last few months, but the development of the campaign syncing feature is nearly ready to be released. I've been testing it with my own Arkham play group for the last 3 months, and its been working pretty well. I can't guarantee its bug free at this point though, so I'm looking for some testers who are willing to roll the dice a bit and help me with testing with their own play groups.
As described before, the feature has a few main goals.
1) Support syncing of campaigns + local decks between your devices. So you can have a campaign on your phone and tablet, and the data will be kept in sync between them.
2) Sharing campaigns within your playgroup -- this lets everyone follow along with the campaign history, perform inputs, and upgrade their own decks (with their own ArkhamDB accounts) at the end of every scenario.
3) Synchronized digital chaos bag -- bless/curse/sealing have made the chaos bag more dynamic, so being able to share the set of tokens between multiple phones is an important feature. You can now synchronize your tokens between devices.
Now, the important thing to note here is that the feature might still have bugs in it -- I've been using it myself for the last 3 months, but there is now a server, custom api, as well as a great deal of synchronization code that has been added.
It's important to note that if you join this beta, CAMPAIGN DATA MIGHT BE LOST. I don't think it will be, and I'll try my best to recover it if something goes wrong, but there are enough moving pieces that I can't make the usual guarantees that I do in this regard -- hence the public beta. But being such a complex/social feature, its just beyond the ability for private testing to exhaust all of the options, hence why I'm asking for help.
If you are interested, I've created a short survey to gather information about potential testers. The first round of testing will be on iOS -- the feature works on Android but there's a much higher cost to switching between the beta and main builds on that platform, so I want to work out the worst bugs on iOS before getting some people stuck on android.
