China's Knockoff Tesla Cybertruck and Elon Musk

Comments

Tesla has already backed off on a massive expansion to the Shanghai plant that it had announced. It had planned to manufacture a lower cost model but seems to have backed away from that as well. Meanwhile, the wages paid Chinese workers in its Shanghai plant are causing issues for competitors. Further, it is making a significant profit while its competitors (BYD in particular) are hemorrhaging money. It was always obvious that China wanted to go to school on Tesla, but it is an open question whether it can replicate what Tesla does. It is a heavily integraded manufacturer that has secured supply chains at favorable rates. That is why it can cut prices and still be profitable. If worse comes to worse and China nationalizes the Shanghai plant, it will have other megafactories on line (Austin, Mexico, Berlin) to pick up the slack. Furthermore, that would signal the death of China as a country into which foreign firms could ever invest money for at least 20 years. Final observation, the Chinese pickup truck is planned as diesel, hybrid or electric - which means it is a compromised design. The old car companies have tried this tactic before and it never works. The compromises needed to make it work with multiple drive trains result in a truck that doesn't preform well against vehicles designed from the ground up for electric propulsion. In short, it is a strategic mistake. They may sell some models, but won't come close to matching the performance of the Cybertruck.

Some brilliantly named comment generator on YouTube asked Lei (Lei's Real Talk) about that last week, she had an agreement based response that burned painfully with deep wisdom.. these three CU heroes have hilarity powers, however

Hey Chris, Ever since the fake gold embarrassment the CCP had a couple of years ago, you would think that other countries would be reluctant to trade gold with the them. How is the CCP proving that their gold reserves are legitimate and not just more propaganda?
