Would it be a good idea to try and forge closer relations with Bhutan? It's a small nation right on the doorstep of Mainland China and (like every other neighbor of the CCP) has border disputes with it, so establishing a U.S. embassy in Bhutan and finding ways to boost investment in the country might at least force the CCP to be more cautious in the region. From what I've read, the nation's government seems reluctant to allow foreign investment for fear of eroding its culture, but it might still be worth a shot.
