It has been a very eventful month for us. We spent a couple of days down in Miami for the Oslo Freedom Forum. If you’ve been watching for a while now, you know it's an international human rights conference, where activists from around the world give sort of TED style talks about their respective horrible authoritarian regimes. And yes, we’re the kind of people who go to Miami for work. Vacation? What’s that? An old wooden ship?
This year’s event was superb as always. The theme was Truth Ignited. 4.2 billion people live under authoritarianism, but all it takes is one person speaking the truth to ignite something big. Be sure to follow them on Twitter (@OsloFF).
We did several interviews while we were there. The first is already up—a fantastic interview Shelley did with Perth Tolle, about how Wall Street basically forces Americans to invest in China, often without knowing it. Coming out soon will be interviews with activists from Hong Kong, Myanmar, and Nigeria! (China is behind most of the world’s authoritarian regimes)
We’ll also have a podcast coming out next week with someone I’ve been dying to interview for a long time—Srdja Popovich. We met in Norway a couple years ago. He was an activist in Serbia who helped take down dictator Slobodan Milošević back in the day, and now he trains other activists in how to overthrow their respective authoritarian regimes using nonviolent tactics. He’ll be giving us a step by step of how to do it. The principles, anyway.
There are more big things on the horizon, but I’ll wait till we’re a little closer before giving you a heads up. And as always none of this would be possible without your incredible support, so from Matt, Shelley, myself and everyone else on the team, THANK YOU!
