stories like this keep bringing me back to the "fake Chinese eggs" or contaminated milk hysterics (or crises) of the early 2010s. i began questioning my chinese friends why anyone would risk another person's health for a handful of cents profit per day. the answer was "there is no good or bad money in china, there is only money". ethics be damned. they've created a culture where corruption is not only tolerated, it's encouraged so long as you don't get caught. is this the alternative to a "protestant work ethic"?

2021-02-12 11:37:01 +0000 UTCI work in Fiji and the Chinese government have part of the contract to build new roads. They build the new road and then in 12 - 18 months they have to repave the whole thing again. Australia has the other contract and those roads are fantastic.
