UAV's might not be a bad idea. You could fly many more than manned jets and not risk the chance of a Taiwanese pilot accidentally starting a conflict with a momentary mistake. I'm sure part of the Chinese plan is to draw accidental fire and be able to claim that Taiwan started the conflict.

2021-01-04 01:53:22 +0000 UTCWhat Taiwan needs is some cheaper aircraft for this mission. Intercept and inspection is a different mission than intercept and engage. A lower cost light fighter or even UAVs could easily do this mission hundreds of times per month and not be costly. And if the unit wears out it is economical to replace it, because cheap to purchase and operate should be part of the consideration. You have real air superiority assets sitting on the ground in hot standby ready to scramble.
