Well, I was going to comment on the Pope's actions, but it has been done above, sort of. Not only is there the Jesuit influence (which would be largely economic) but there could be a force majeure. What would that be? Just as business lusts after money, the Church wants people, parishioners. China provides a headcount. Although, while the people may be true believers, it remains to be seen what kind of "acts" the Chicom Church leaders promote. And as for personal contacts with the Jesuits, there was one monk I knew scamming the Church for his degree...he got another student pregnant and she had a bad abortion and ended up in a Queens hospital. And while living in France I got to know a Jesuit priest who I would discuss religion with over cigars and wine. He lived with a rich lady from his parish. Ostensibly, she was his "patrone". The French are very practical in this religious stuff. Least-ways, off the record.
