Monthly Letter October 2018
Added 2018-10-03 15:31:03 +0000 UTCHello my 50-cent Army! First off, you are amazing. The questions you’ve been sending me have been great and I’ve loved the opportunity to go a little deeper with some thorny China topics.
It’s a big time for the show! We got a write up in The Epoch Times about how YouTube has been censoring the show in its search suggestions. Go ahead, try typing China Un... into YouTube’s search box. Here’s the article about it.
Coincidentally, Google is also working on Project Dragonfly, a censored search engine for China! Did I mention that was a coincidence?
Also, this is a good time for me to remind you, YouTube has unsubscribed people from the channel, including even Shelley. So make sure you’re still subscribed and have the notification bell on! So again, this is why your support for the show is so important. We’re up against a lot.
Other big news: We’ve finally reached a level of enough support that we were able to hire someone to give the show some new graphics! Stay tuned for a new look to the show! I love the results and I think you will too. I shared with you a sample of a background last week, but even that’s getting reworked.
In September, we had another incredible experience with the Oslo Freedom Forum. This time it was hosted in New York. I hope you enjoyed the interviews we did with Chinese activist Gao Zhisheng’s daughter, Eritrean activist Meron Estafanos, North Korean defector Yeonmi Park, and we’ll have one more coming out this month about China’s influence in Bolivia.
In November, we’ll also be going to the Oslo Freedom Forum in Taiwan. That’ll be a big deal.
In other travel news, we have a trip down to DC planned for October. We’ll be covering some pretty interesting stories while we’re down there. I think you’ll be pleased.
That’s about it! Before I let you go, I just want to remind you all to check out the China Unscripted Podcast we started, where Matt, Shelley, and I go into way more detail about China than we can get to on the show. There’s also our new show America Uncovered, where we bring the same kind of humor with something unheard of in American political discourse—rationality! I hope you enjoy all our shows.
Once again thanks for your support! I feel honored to have such an army as yourselves standing behind me.
Chris

Thanks so much for your work. That you can report horrible news and do it with humor is amazing. One thing that frustrates me when I learn about all the awful things the CCP is doing is that I cannot find organizations that are working against the CCP's schemes in the US and around the world. Which organizations like this do you recommend? I want to make a difference but doing things by myself, such as writing my congressmen or not buying Chinese made products, makes very little difference. But if I can be part of a larger organization that is working together doing those actions, my efforts would, hopefully, have more impact. And since you have so many subscribers, please give us an action to take related to the topic of each video you post. For example, when you talked about Apple and other companies resisting the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act HR 6210, you could have suggested that we write to our senators (and put a sample letter that could be copied and edited by your viewers to make it as easy as possible to act) urging them to enact this bill into law. And suggest that we write to Apple or one of the other companies (provide contact info for the most relevant person or office within the company) and tell them we will no longer use their products if they continue to resist the bill. Being informed is a first step but taking action to make a difference based on that information is what will cause change. Get your army working together in the same direction. One more example, please give us the contact info for the office in Youtube that is responsible for unsubscribing people and demonitorizing episodes so we can write to them and complain that they seem to be submitting to influence from the CCP. I would be willing to threaten to drop Youtube premium if they continue this practice and then would do that if they don't change the practice. (I would put up with all he awful commercials for you, China Uncensored). If enough of your subscribers who are Youtube premium subscribers did that, Youtube might change their practice. Get your army of subscribers moving!! Give us some specific marching orders!!! Thank you again for the work you are doing. You have opened my eyes to many things. And please interview Gen. Robert Spalding (author of Stealth War) on one or more of your episodes.

2021-04-02 17:13:10 +0000 UTCI've been watching since late 2014 and been supporting on here since 2016 and seeing all the travelling and growth y'all have done makes me realize that something small like this can really make a difference. Thank you and the whole crew for doing what you do.

2018-10-03 21:32:15 +0000 UTCGreat. Thanks for the update. I’m glad that the censorship in the YouTube search results is getting some press. It’s really quite shocking that a US based company is censoring results which are critical of the CCP, not for users accessing the site from within the PRC (which would be at least logical) but for users worldwide. That’s pretty scandalous.
