#333 - This Will DOUBLE Your Progress WITHOUT More Practice

My friends, I want to show you a NEW practice approach that I've been working on over the last few weeks - hope it helps you as much as it did me :)

Download your full workout package for this week (tabs, guitar pro files, play-along videos, backing tracks): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YpMWrZfN-o8AJ4LobTQLBjkcnt1QCp4X?usp=drive_link

Working on isolating the fretting hand in your practice routine is the fastest way to better finger control, strength, and dexterity. This greatly improved my legato playing and further cleaned up my arpeggios and scales - so I hope you will give it a try as well! If you're having issues with this, just post some practice videos in the VIP Facebook group and I will help out.

And as always, I also made a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/s2zzjat8arya06e0n5e4b/AF0SCLIRocpzkp-85fuADf0?rlkey=rjqy4w0w8j3ueivdhp560fqo4&st=1cu5xtp7&dl=0

#333 - This Will DOUBLE Your Progress WITHOUT More Practice

Awsome! I've been trying to get my friends to use Google drive too.... Ha! Told them it wa the best way

Shane Mitchell

Thank you! Lately I've hit 100 BPM

Ula

Hey Ula, try to explore his techniques in what NOT to do with holding the pick, keeping fingers close to the fretboard (no fly away pinkies), and many more tips in his other videos. Make sure you have mastered the 90 bpm and below before trying to go above. Those are my suggestions, not that I'm the fastest, I get up to 190-200 bpm

Daniel

Practice limiting your pinky finger movement and strengthen it. Try to really do it in a very economic way. Maybe you also lift your finger too high and do some kind of pull off movement without even noticing it. Good luck!

Markus Angerer

Any tips on muting when working on Exercise 3? I am generating the most noise when transitioning from the pinky to the index finger - mainly because the pinky comes off fast after hammering on which generates a bunch of noise on that string, and the index finger hits the next strong down, leaving the string the pinky just hit ringing out. I’ve zeroed in on the pinky to index finger transitions specifically and am trying to leave the pinky slightly touching the string after hammering on, muting it, but this is quite challenging and unnatural feeling, especially when tryin to pick up some speed. Is this the right way to go about it though, or is there an easier way?

Denis Roginskiy

Hi Bernth, I've taken some of your courses but I still can't go over 90BPM. I've been strugling with it for two months now. Do you know how can I break this barrier?

Ula

Bernth, I am LOVING this slew of videos you are posting or re-posting for beginning guitar and better guitar technique. I really loved the one with your wife on picking technique. I hope you continue to do these. I am an accomplished pianist and organist, so I know all the theory. But I got my first guitar about 3 weeks ago. I can now play Fly by Night and In the End by Rush. I am devouring your videos. When I am a big-time rock guitarist I will let you do some backup guitar on my albums. I will probably pay you something , too even though the exposure will be pay enough. I am just joking in those last lines... but I am not in the first.

Stephan Peters

for this exercise should I be muting with the picking hand or should all muting be done with the fretting hand?

guitar pro file is missing

Hi Bernd! Thank you very much for your efforts! I wanted to ask, if possible, to make at least a short video explaining exactly how you personally do vibrato. The fact is that almost everywhere on the Internet they show this process only using the so-called "jazzy" grip of the neck. But, since you recommend using a classic grip (holding your thumb BEHIND the neck of the guitar), what is the correct way to do vibrato in this case? It is very easy to do if my thumb is on top of the guitar neck. But how to do this correctly during passages when your thumb finger is behind the guitar fretboard? The videos shows a little that you manage to do vibrato with this arm position - I would like to see this process in more detail with your explanations. I think this would be interesting for many others like me. I hope I expressed myself more or less clearly (English is not my native language). Thank you very much in advance!

rmonplato

Yeah but this is just the workout. Or is it also meant as the course? If yes confusing naming^^

Daniel Ullrich

Hey there, it's the Google Drive or Dropbox link in this post (like with all courses) - just click it and get access to all files right away! Hope that helps, Team Bernth

Bernd Brodträger

i believe so too.

Nicolas Farrenq

Where is the finger technique course? I don’t see it.

Daniel Ullrich

Im possibly the least talented player here. And I'm a headless chicken to boot. I've only recently discovered and signed up to Bernth and I've personally decided to stick to a lesson before moving on. In the past I've jumped from Billy to Jack and ended up not learning anything. So this time I'm go to try concentrate and practice one item at a time and see how that goes. Just my personal take on it guys n gals. Xave

Xave Ryan

Yes, tkes long time for me to, guess i will just doi exercise 1 until i nail it and then just move on to number 2

Hey Ivan, we changed the link again! No idea why this keeps happening every week :( Looks like Google Drive is much more reliable and there are no hiccups - maybe give that a try so that you always have instant access! Thanks so much! :)

Bernd Brodträger

Seems like I am use doing this stuff. Seems very easy to me. Could do exercise 1 right away. Exercise 2, 3 and 4 are more complicated but also pretty doable. Way more than the workout from two weeks ago with the picking stuff. Was still not able to do complete it after one week training on it.

Daniel Ullrich

I Have the same question and was thinking with every workout I’ve done so far…Took almost every time way longer than a week to nail it.

Daniel Ullrich

Really Love the first exercise. Working pretty damn good!!

Daniel Ullrich

This is awesome, thanks! Very nice to have something really new to practice!

manyasone

So it's a primer to working towards knapsack lol

Darrin Warner

Heey thanks for this - @Bernth the dropbox link is currently not working 🙏

Ivan V.

Awesome. Thanks.

istillsuckatguitar

Awesome exercise! What am I missing on exercise three...why is it fret 6-8-10 on the b string. Shouldn't it be 6-9-10 and hit the g#?

RySi

Awesome video Bernth! Scar spangled banner by exodus is a great song example to get these techniques down!

ARSON

Love these videos with new practice ideas. I think most guitar players are always on the search for more ways/things to practice. Thanks Bernth

Shreddy McGuire

hello Bernth! this is a really good exercise! but i have a question, do you think that i should do all 4 exercises in a row during this 15 - 20 minutes or just doing excersie 1 until i can play it without any trouble and then move on to excerise 2 etc... would be cool to have you opinion :)
