January 2018 Monthly Message

Hello my 50-Cent Army and Happy New Year! I have returned from the Matrix...I mean, vacation! And despite some of your fears, no, Matt and Shelley did not have me killed so they could take over the show.

This will be a big year for the show and for China. We have some major plans in the works, but I’ll keep some of that a little close to my chest for now.

January is already off to a great start. Despite 10 degree weather in New York (that’s -12 for you Celcius people), Matt and I went to the Chinese Consulate in New York yesterday.

Not, it’s not what you’re thinking. We went there because there were several groups protesting the detention of Tibetan activist Tashi Wangchuk. It was amazing to see their dedication. (That episode comes out on our website Friday.)

Incidentally, we also saw a group of elderly Falun Gong practitioners nearby, carrying on a vigil outside the consulate that they’ve been doing almost every day for at least 10 years. Those Chinese aunties are tough! I could barely stand the weather for half an hour.

Some other big news—we may finally have a new writer for the show! We actually have two people in a trial period, but fingers crossed! We could use the help—it’s just really hard to find someone with the right sarcastic style, backed by solid journalistic integrity.

This will free us up to do more things that we’ve been too busy to do since we launched our half-hour TV format last July. Some things we want to do are:

And finally, I want to give a big thanks to Matt and Shelley for carrying on the show while I took a short break. They did a great job. But hopefully not so great that you all want them to take over the show instead of me...

So stay tuned! We have great things in the works. And it’s all thanks to your support, my amazing 50-Cent Army!

—Chris
