#326 - You're Probably Practicing Guitar Scales WRONG

My friends, I'd like to talk to you about guitar scales this week! We're all a bit guilty of just playing them up and down in our practice routines - so let's work on more practical and creative ways of unlocking their melodic potential :)

I put together a special guitar scale workout package for you this week, combining the most important scale lessons and routines into one awesome bundle (play-along videos, tabs, guitar pro files, PDF tabs): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19L3neDokUTxxWP6hZEc7Qb4mqxGpUf_t?usp=sharing

Please always make sure to think about what you're practicing - mechanical scale runs make great picking exercises, but don't do much when it comes to internalizing the important notes and intervals in the scales we want to use. If you need feedback, please just post your questions or practice videos in the VIP group and I'll help out :)

As always, I also made a Dropbox folder, in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/bb32fc3qf4v9vg18tvafr/AHWRksZ-6bWTnfTaDoiZ2xc?rlkey=yrblbkqkbbr11t0d75762005p&st=bbjw96ec&dl=0

Hey there, the modes in the videos are usually arranged so that they cover the fretboard, starting from the first fret, then moving up for the full workout. Hope this helps, Team Bernth

is there a reason for the order of the modes you have in the modes exercise?

Bernth, you're improving the quality of the teaching at a very impressive rate lately - these last 3 packages have been just ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ”ฅ

I'm new to electric guitar, only played cowboy chords on acoustic before. I know that for max shred agility, economic playing and speed finger placement matters. Would it be possible to mark on the tab which finger is supposed to hit which note during the exercises? Or is there some kind of rule to follow which finger is supposed to go where on the frets? It's a lot of stop and go when I try to observe it in the videos. When I just do whatever my movement on the fretboard is all over the place

Hi Bernth - Can you please describe the type of amp and pedals you are using to get your tone and sustain?
