#310 - Guitar Theory Tricks I Wish I Knew 10 Years Ago

My friends, you voted for a lesson on chord progressions and how to use a bit of theory to come up with awesome progressions, arpeggio sequences and more - so with this video, I want to show you some tricks I wish I knew 10 years ago :)

Download your practice files for this week (tabs, guitar pro, demonstration videos): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ng9Wyjd4FGfwexi94IFrT2yN39aTslI9?usp=sharing

Make sure to watch this one until the end to see the awesome sound of melodic minor - we never really checked that one out so far! So even if the beginning is too easy for you (made for everyone with no theory experience so far), please don't dismiss the entire video :)

And as always, here's a Dropbox folder for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/st248rtreru4qjnszobe0/h?rlkey=7szff2wwlyu70l99to1qdy9mc&dl=0

Hello Bernth, your videos are always so interesting and have allowed me to progress. I have a question about learning the fretboard. I am tuned to drop-C. Should I learn the real notes or should I rely on drop-D tuning. Both have advantages and disadvantages. What do you think ?

That's a great explanation, thank you very much! :)

So, Harmonic Minor makes the transition from the V chord back to the I chord sound 'better' with voice leading. If you move the minor V chord in a minor I, IV, V to a major chord instead (dominant actually), the major 3rd on that chord is a major 7 on that minor I chord - just a half-step away from the move back to the I. That major 7 is the change from 'normal' minor to Harmonic minor.

Sometimes you have to use view on YouTube for it to work.

One thing that always confused me was how harmonic or melodic scales come to be. I know that, for example to get a locrian B major scale, i gotta play the notes of the C-Major scale, starting with B and ending with B. But how is it with harmonic sclaes? Did someone just randomly decide that it'd be a good idea to raise that one particular note?

is anyone having trouble playing the video? keep getting, An error has occurred, when i try to play the lesson, same last week too. thanks
