Hi, so i have it on the back all the time (also while doing chords). Since then i have improved significantly easier and can play way better. I know it hurts at the beginning, but the pain goes away.

2024-01-07 16:25:33 +0000 UTCGenerally speaking, yes you want your thumb behind the neck. It helps support your fingers better. I even do this for chords except for basic campfire chords. But this starts to become impossible as you pass the 12th fret and your thumb will come up (well, at least mine does :-)), but never over the top as the picture shows on the left.

I've been playing with my thumb floating on top and starting to wonder if that's the reason why my playing is inconsistent. Should it be on the back at all times? Except for chords.
