2017-06-29 11:53:21 +0000 UTCChina knows that if they were to go the invasion route they would be at the receiving end of a balancing coalition and China would fall so they use soft power methods. They have enough resources where they can do it too, especially when it is close to home. They know that the closing of China was a mistake (an open secret but still) so they want to expand without getting crushed in the process and so they end up utilizing influences to push other countries to do what they want and to either be China or not be in any way competitive with them.
