#252 - Awesome Daily Legato Workout!

My friends, you voted for a legato workout on the wishlist - so I'm happy to present you with this killer routine! It features all of the most common legato patterns that you usually encounter in a practical situation, so it makes for a great daily routine.

Here are your practice files(play-along video, backing tracks, tabs, guitar pro, instructions): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FNAdRGdT3JJW-FXGZaYaG-pqQFK1mrfW?usp=sharing

Try to make each note audible and equally articulated - and you don't have to go with the hybrid picking approach I'm showing in the video, you can use your preferred picking approach :) Have fun!

P.S. Here's a Dropbox link in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/q6iq2vlvoib619814oaq6/h?dl=0&rlkey=v6mmdn4zhsqsp789whoocpm17

Damn, this is harder than it looks!

If I play this with high gain, I get a lot of sympathetic string noise on the string below (lower tone) the one I'm playing. Is it really possible to be that precise with your palm muting that you can mute that one string above the one you're playing, but not the string you're playing itself, and do it consistently? If I just need more practice with that precision with my palm, that's fine. But I just want to make sure I'm on the right track and there's not some other trick I'm missing.

Very helpful exercise. Thank you so much for all the intensive and effective workouts. After more than 30 years guitar playing during the last months I have been developing as fast as never before.

Hi Paul I'm having similar trouble but mostly with pulloffs. Check out this lesson and tip 4 in particular as it has something to work on that can really help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpakeVW1qXI&t=1501s

tough exercise if you have small hands that don't stretch at this position. going to have to slide it up higher to make it work

Rylie Franco

Very dope🙏🏽 thank you Bernth

Hey Paul, did you check out the full course I made on this? I think it will help a lot: https://www.patreon.com/posts/184-ultimate-30-54171102 Have an awesome day! :)

Hi Bernth, can you explain how in the world you get consistent levels/volume from legato like you do without seeming to be pulling hard on the string and bending them out of tune while doing so? My first note is loud, second significantly more quiet, and almost completely not heard by the third or fourth pull off / hammer on. Ive tried to crank on the string / smash the finger hard but it just isn't smooth or even volume. Any tricks to that other than 10,000 hours of practice? Thanks as always

Paul Jenkins

Thanks Bernth!

Paul McDonough

Hey Paul, please try the Google Drive link - Dropbox is sadly acting up more and more these days! I will try to find the problem, thanks for the feedback :)

Bernd Brodträger

Hi Bernth, I’m having trouble downloading this. It says I don’t have access. Thanks!

Paul McDonough

Sweet! Every kind of lesson that includes licks is well accepted. :-)
