WHERE TO START | Guideline For New Members!

Joined today and I have a question regarding the 4th section of practice. "Improvisation." If I recall, Bernth was saying that you need a practical section to your practice routine. So what are people doing? Soloing over backing tracks? Playing songs they want to learn? Playing the songs that will Immediately get you kicked out of Guitar Center? ;) Just wondering.

Sean Squires

hi there i havent receibed the welcome note eather!!

Juan Ignacio Yañez

Hi Bernth could you please send me the link to the facebook group I must have missed the welcome note.

Blair Studley

I never got a welcome note..

Dominick O'Dierno

I’m lost too. I’m just filtering by membership and date older to new. I’ve sorted by “picking lessons” and will start on post #276.

Pomerose Guitars

john smith

Marios Aggelopoulos

Thank you so much for being amazing and dedicated to this amazing instrument called GUITAR! I love playing it. I have owned a guitar since I was 12 (28ish years) I used to start to practice or play and got discouraged quite easily and 'no one wants to hear someone learn to play an instrument' was a hindrance. So, years down the road, I started to care about myself and got with an actual good man. He also plays guitar and encourages me to better myself and my passions, and now it's being unleashed. He is the one who introduced me to your absolute undivided attention-grabbing soul-awaking ability. I AM SO THANKFUL that you teach and want everyone to have the tools available to unlock their full potential if they apply themselves. So, Thank you again! My Boyfriend (RJ) and I will now be learning together. This will not only improve our guitar abilities, confidence, over view of life but our relationship and quality time too! You rock! Shred on my friend.

Jessica Leech

Looks like it? I didn't see any Comms about doing this so thats a bit low if it is the case...what's up @Bernth?

Rob O'Neill

Thanks for posting. I needed this. :)

Mike

Never too young or too old hahaha! Always learning

Pedro Marcos

43 years old, and I've been noodling for far too long! Wish I could go back to 25 and start from there.

J M

Same thing here, did you get this solved?

Pedro Oliveira

Wow! That's too much! I pick the subscription with the mentory by facebook just because I'm 25 five years old and I've been playing my hole life, but never had one single guitar class... Have no idea where to start hahaha I'm gonna try do the list of things that I want to improve, but I'm sure that the community will be way too usefull for me

Pedro Marcos

I joined, but my facebook email is different from my patreon email, so I can't apply to join the Facebook group

Felix

this is amazing.. i am literally having decision paralysis and dont know where to begin there is so much content

Michael Allen

Most of the files won't open up for me

Chris

Hey there, thanks so much for asking about this! This 7-week course is especially made for all students that want a bit more structure compared to the less organized system of Patreon. It's hosted on skool.com, which allows us to split the weeks into seperate chapters with play-along workouts, tabs, backing tracks, and there's also a student community of around 400 players that all share their progress in the 'Classroom' tab. The material is completely new and aside from added bonuses, it's not connected to Patreon in any way. So if you like the lessons here but feel like you need a more structured step-by-step approach, you would like it a lot! Hope this helps :) Team Bernth

Bernd Brodträger

What is this Guitar Mastery Blueprint thing there is for sale in the shop tab ? I can't find much info about it or any previews.

Jeffrey Epstein

However if you practice those speed workouts and you not improved a lot check some videos about your picking technique.

Spyros Tsimboulis

Hello there, if you want to focused on your speed you can try the speed workout 1, 2 3 or 4.[focused on your fretting hand you want to be ass close as you can.especially the pinky finger.]Also you can check the finger relaxation workout and the video that has realy make me feel more comfortable wihle I play guitar TECHNIQUE MISTAKES 89% of Guitarists make & how to fix them!

Spyros Tsimboulis

Hey there, for finger technique it's usually recommended to start here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/182-this-finger-53895697 It would be the most helpful to see your playing to give feedback, VIP/Platinum members have access to a secret Facebook group for personal coaching - if that's interesting for you, just pick one of those memberships and you will get access right away :) Hope that helps, Team Bernth

Bernd Brodträger

Hi Berth, I am learning guitar for 5 years, but I have problems with speed and with my left pinky finger that tends to be stiff and away from the fretboard (In Spain it is called tea drinker pinky finger) . Any workout to solve it? I hope to improve with your videos. Thanks

Francisco Zea

i took some time off from playing to deal with my mental health, i finally am at a place where im abke to put my all in, im 5 days in my practice routine, i look forward to sharing my journey back to shreddng and maybe finally learning to shred, search claudio blacks symphonic duality u wil find me all i have posted are videos of me playing durng my crisis, watch me grow thanks to you bearnth you kept me going

Droggnarf

Hey there, welcome to our community and thanks for coming! :) Great to have you here, have an amazing week!

Bernd Brodträger

Hey Bernth. My name is Maël. Met you the other day in Reunion Island. That was truly unexpected and incredible to see you there. Made me want to work really more seriously. I am sure this community along with your methods will help me push back my limits. I think my 4 priorities for that are 1) arpeggios/sweep 2) scale theory 3) chord theory / cadences 4) alternate picking. Let's go !

Lëam Nidnorg

Thx Mark . I’m aggressively and studying my guitar again. And it’s so nice to be back feeling the groove and it’s just the expression and I’m 68 years old and I started playing when I was about nine years old but I haven’t played this much in 40 years so it’s really really wonderful.

Hi everyone, new member here! Bernth is absolutely the greatest guitar instructor I've ever seen. The content is amazing and the amount of right information and practice materials you get in each video is second to none. I encourage everyone to join this community and bring guitar playing to the next level. Let's do this!

Sadžid Smajkić

Bernd Brodträger

Hey what's up, I am very excited to get started with this along with the YouTube channels Bernth offers us. So let's get started on this and work on my guitar technique and practice routine. I've been playing for 26 years now. Started when I was 13 and feel like I am now stuck, plateaued with my playing and would love to work on new things and changing the way I think about my instrument. I'm looking at this as if though I am a beginner, and relearning my basics and other techniques to improve my playing. Maybe picking up other styles of guitar along the way.

Matty Claus

Hey Marcin, welcome to the community! :) Team Bernth

Bernd Brodträger

Hi, at the age of 42 I decode to learn to play on the guitar. I decided to start straight with electric. Combo is here and it's been waiting for the guitar from a week. This one will arrive tomorrow - Eastman SB59/v with full setup + PLEK. So once again, hi everyone!

Marcin Staniszczak

Hey there, Bernth's 7-week course is hosted on a different platform and is not connected with Patreon in any way content-wise. It's a structured week-by-week program that's about his most important guitar technique and music theory takeaways, with added workouts, guitar pro files, backing tracks, and more! Hope this helps Team Bernth

Bernd Brodträger

Bernth hi. About 7 weeks course. Is it different lessons or it all lessons in one folder, which you loaded to patreon before?

Ig kk

BERNTH replied to my question just within the next day ... there is the new format on youtube for VIP and Platinum members, for sharing videos and comments additional to the facebook channel. Thanks for the fast answer. So this will be an alternative for people who don't use facebook. But he won't use the Community channel in Patreon by now ...

Welcome, Michael! 🤘

I played from 2004-2013, but in 2010 I started listening to genres other than metal, and by 2013 I lost interest in listening to metal entirely, and with that I lost interest in guitar. Fast forward to 2022 and I discovered that BTBAM released Colors II, which revived my interest in metal, and now I am back on the guitar and have found my way here.

Michael Locke

I’m a new student but I’ve played for over fifty years. So grateful to be here.

jon gergeceff

Hi Leon, thanks for your reply ... i will send a message to BERNTH to ask for this possibility ...

Andreas Kurzmann

I heard that Patreon somewhere in 2023 added the feature of community group chats. Maybe there's one for the VIPs that don't have Facebook. I don't exactly know how all of that works but perhaps you could ask Bernth if he could create such a chat. Here's the Link to the Patreon help center regarding the matter of community chats: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/18855652505357-Community-chats Hope this helps in any way, have a fantastic day ;)

Leon Sunu

Hi @ all Shredders , I had a similar issue as Jon Anglin with the monthly bills ... So now I'm back again and now I have a yearly subscription ... I hope this won't happen again with just one bill in a year :) And I also want to know if there is another channel for VIPs than facebook ... this would be nice ... and would me do the upgrade as well Thanks

Andreas Kurzmann

Welcome back, Jon!🤘

Mark Sanders

I had to join again today. Somehow my membership was removed. I hadn't gotten an email from Bernth since December. I logged into Patreon and it said I had no memberships. Very odd. Anyways, I'm back!

Welcome, Monsi!🤘

Finally got myself into joining. My E Drums were destroyed last Year by Neighbours so I started playing more Guitar instead. The Youtube Algorithm showed me 2 Videos of Bernth which were very interssant ( Common Mistakes as Self educated PLayer + Lesons for alternate Picking) and so now I am here

This is awesome. Bernth mentions picking four topics, but I had no idea what topics to pick! Thank you! Has anyone thought to create a course syllabus from the available lessons - say, for someone who just wants to learn it all?

Historically, BERNTH typically checks once-a-week. However, if you haven’t seen the news, he just got married. So, it might be a couple more days than normal. (this is not official... just my speculation)

You can download cockos reaper. Its a digital audio workstation. Then you can search for free amp sims, find one you like and download it. It should go to a default folder. Once in reaper you can add a track, click the FX button on the track and find the amp sim. Click the record button and set the input to whatever your tone cable is connected to. Click the little speaker on the track to start monitoring. Now you have a digital amp! It may take a little more setup on your end depending on the equipment your working with. I use a scarlett solo audio interface for all of my input/output.

Daniel

How long does it usually take to get access to the facebook group?

Daniel

נ.א.ת.י ג.ר, are you asking how to get access to the Facebook VIP group?

i'm actually considering ending my yearly membership because of this detail. It's such a drag to spend so much time guessing and analyzing videos over and over again...

Erik Goetzinger Nyberg

Hello Bernth. This is more than a suggestion; it's a beginner's plea, or almost a cry. It would be of great help to me (and I hope to many) if you could include the finger placements of your left hand in your tablatures. As a beginner, it's challenging for me to find the best finger placement for certain exercises, and it causes some frustration and a loss of time. I would be delighted to know that you can at least consider this. Without further ado, I'm sending you a big hug from Barcelona. We hope to see you on tour here at some point. It would be a pleasure to see you!

where can i find the practice routines?

Hey everyone, I have a question. I just joined the group and want to learn to start playing better, but I don't have an amp or any equipment. I have been playing Rocksmith to help me learn, so I have a real tone cable... any Ideas on any software that is worth it to download onto my pc using the real tone cable? any Suggestions would be appreciated so I don't have to drop a chunk on an amp or anything. Thanks in advance!

Metronome with the ability to customize time sigs, pitch shifter,Midi compatibility, looper, in plug-in recording as well as the ability to export said recordings. Amp knobs should have dialog boxes so we can type in the desired number for adjusting settings. An IR loader, the ability to select a speaker cab and change mic positionings on that speaker cab. Recommend settings for single coil humbucker active and passives in the software to make gainstaging easier. Ability to apply pedals and effects retroactively so you can decide if you like one pedal or effect more than another for adjusting your tone and to go with that digital pedals.

Elisa Solinas

In MHO, you are restraining yourself just to sound more lower tone or darker, its just a question of phisics. Learn what you have to learn in the starndard way, and then apply this to B, or any other tuning, but also think that the guitars nowadays are not specifically done just to take it and lower 5 semitones and then expect to sound as Anathema. Dont mix attitude with technique or knowledge. I only see problems with that tunings, as far as I go, the guitar is 1000000 things more than I I play in drop B. Other approach, be proud with your B but grab a second guitar in E and learn. I guess you got much to learn

Eduardo Martín Alonso

Ideally yes. You can get by, but there will be certain frustrations, like trying to play with backing tracks whose pitch don't match, playing low e string notes that don't match the tab because you're in drop d. Two ideas... 1) if you have a Floyd Rose without the hole in the body, you can get an EVH drop tuna that lets you go in and out of drop tuning with the flip of a switch. 2) tune your guitar to standard tuning, but get a d tuning pedal to drop to b whenever you want. Not ideal either because you do hear some artifacts and your strings will have higher tension than you're used to with drop b, but it's a way to get the best of both worlds. 3) oh and a third idea - get a second guitar haha

Ron

Yes

Benjamin Lemons

Any suggestions - I play in drop B, but I think all the materials here are for standard tuning? Should I play along using a different guitar, in standard tuning to develop my technique? Even though it is not the guitar I play daily otherwise?!

Patrick Cotter

try creating a new track and adding one note - if you cant hear that, its a guitar pro issue.

Roger Fulton

probably some bug bec it should be available if you are even just a basic member. try rebooting or re-installing. hope this helps

Hey Tom, Notice how each new topic has a number with it, (e.g. #250 - Bernth Picking Workout CHALLENGE), that number can help you find the relevant files and lessons here and in the channel :) Hope this helps!

T. S. Were you able to get the link to work?

Somewhat new here, and may be an obvious question but....if I see something on the YouTube channel, and I want to find the backing tracks and practice tools tied to that video, is there an easy way to find and match those up? I am having a hard time (in cases) finding the practice materials here, for things I see on YouTube. Thanks!

If you go to the link and scroll down, you should see three videos related to developing your Practice Routine. I just double-checked the link. Be sure that you have "?filters[tag]=Practice%20Routine" at the end of the URL. You should see: #232 - How to build an effective PRACTICE ROUTINE! #137 - 5 Steps To Your ULTIMATE Practice Routine (Finally Make REAL Progress!) #52: Why You Make NO Guitar Progress | Change That Today! #137 and #52 have PDF sample routines that you can download.
