#247 - Beginner Songwriting, Recording, Mixing & Mastering (MAB Ep2)

My friends, 'Making A Band' will finally return on YouTube this weekend with episode 2! We will make a Black Metal band in 10 minutes - from a band name, to the logo, song, artwork, and merch, all the way to the final music video :)

To prepare something special for the Patreon community, I edited a course-style video of the entire process aimed at beginners! Download all your files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BVLOQV9vkBzc_rS6bppLSD6N1Q9DbykM?usp=sharing

I was using EZmix2, EZbass, and EZdrummer in this video. You can find these plugins here, please make sure to check if you need some expansions to get all the sounds you want (Toontrack just gave me everything): https://www.toontrack.com/

Make sure to check out 'Making A Band' episode 2 on YouTube tomorrow, hope you have an amazing weekend :)

And as always, here's a Dropbox link for you in case Google Drive doesn't work: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/61etr2wflwa50r6/AAAaFNMuM2ZQPhTGNNrplhwxa?dl=0

that's a huge investment. Try Glenn Fricker's mixing courses. He is a sound engineer.

This cracked me up ... if a local band cranked out this high quality and then worked on their live set .. they'd be huge locally. I'm strictly studio based and just upgraded to EzDrummer 3 ... the EZ bass is next so I can concentrate on guitar playing and composing.

The vocals without the EZMix Effects killed me :-D

Ah, ok that explains it :)

This is all so fast man How long did it take you to get the hang of all this mixing I need to go to school I think Even the beginner course is like Chinese to me

It's zoomed in so that I can see the waveform - that helps with checking if the DI track is on the grid :) For anyone wondering, leveling the gain correctly is discussed at the start of this course, hope that helps: https://www.patreon.com/posts/116-guitar-home-41896762

What? Just about 2 minutes? Everything under 8 min isn't TRVE BLACK :P Btw. aren't your guitars and voices recorded a little too loud? Their level is off the charts there. So it seems like you are near clipping and maybe also having that. Since this is about mixing and mastering you maybe should mention that it's best to leave some room in the recordings volume wise. Recording too loud makes it near impossible to fix it, recording too quiet on the other hand is no problem nowadays. You can easily turn the volume up without killing the sound.

would be nice to have a Toontrack coupon code in such a post :)
