#238 - Patreon Exclusive Hybrid Picking Workout

My friends, you voted for a hybrid picking workout - so I'm excited to present a practical and really cool-sounding practice package :) This is all based on a fast and fluid fusion-style lick and it perfectly showcases the power of hybrid picking - fast and unpredictable string changes, interesting phrasing, and a liquid, effortless sound!

Here are all your files for this week's lesson (video play-alongs, backing tracks, tabs, guitar pro files, instructions): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nsh57WHTQRE1q-XfqRlk8NX3bzbM2NrN?usp=sharing

Let me know if you would like to see a beginner lesson on hybrid picking on the platform, or if we should dive even deeper into this cool technique :) I think it's definitely under-used and under-appreciated, so I hope you will work on it!

P.S.: Here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9j0o0oo8dgkmnvl/AADZscqmU4HGNXtvdIiS_tHVa?dl=0

Great exercise Bernth for many reasons. 1. It is a beautiful composition. This makes it a joy to practice. 2. Great mixing of techniques. Legato and hybrid picking together. 3. This is a masterclass in muting. Really hard to play this cleanly especially as the speed goes up. I found paying attention to the picking direction really helped me do the muting better. Thank you Bernth.

What's stopping you? Just do a 30 day challenge with this exercise!

Mike Whitla

It will be amazing if you will do whole course with 30-day chalange for hybrid picking

I was just hoping we’d get one of these!!! Thank you

This is such a cool exercise!

Slightly different in sound (staccato) but a very similar approach, that's correct! :)

Bernd BrodtrΓ€ger

Great sounding licks. Makes you wanna practice them all the time.

This is a really cool exercise! It felt very strange at first but I get it now. I can definitely see how this will enable you to play even faster in the long run. I think in blues guitar this is called "chicken picking" isn't it? Or is that different?

Awesome composition, looking forward to digging in!

Chris Cook

I slowed it and learnt it in 20 mins and managed to get it 80 bpm pretty stoked 🀘🏼

Take your time and just set a slower click track to the tab. You will get it.

Many thanks Bernth! Personally, I would like to dive deeper into this picking technique. Maybe at least some workouts to help increase speed with hybrid picking would be awesome!
