#224 - 5 Levels Of Rhythm Complexity (easy to INSANE)

My friends, you voted for rhythm guitar and also music theory on this month's wishlist - so it's time to check out some crazy rhythms and workouts! Can you make it to level 5? I promise this will greatly improve your timing :)

Here are your practice files (play-along videos, backing tracks in different tempos, guitar pro file, tabs): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17f0LyisW3jp3WABpKhq0yIZWUkqpNAn3?usp=sharing

I also want to put together a downstroke/rhythm workout and challenge since the majority of you guys and girls voted for this topic - hope I get it done by next week :)

By the way, here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4gxyemdm06ztsdu/AABKAIWdhDPFtUTD--k9hkQWa?dl=0

I know .. there's no Konnakol starter lessons out there. It's the answer to all our problems.

Tomas Tomasovich

Very much needed exercise for me, from level 3 onwards i cannot play it at all atm, definitely adding this to my daily routine.

Marco

You know what be fun to add to this that goes along with your words with quintuplets etc? Im sure someone probably already commented with this, but what about doing this with Konnakol? I have watched and tried to learn from Mattias IA Eklund videos but he moves so goddamn fast its hard to keep up.

Kramer M Riddick

I'd recommend checking out the Konnakol system! Hope I get to do a video on it at some point :)

Bernd Brodträger

Great lesson. Any suggestions for Naming xtuplets. I go first: quintuplets: Da-da-pi-co-lo … but what about septuplets??

Welcome to our community Nigel, great to have you here! :)

Bernd Brodträger

This is EXACTLY what I need .. on my weakest area. Signed up today so I could start attacking this and not let my playing slide again.

Thank you, Mr. Bernth! This tutorial is just what I need for my practice. All the examples are well explained & in order of difficulty. That might sound simple or obvious, but looking for online metal rhythm tutorials does not give your linear results. Not to mention time consuming. Time is something that I found myself lacking lately. As always the production quality & lesson content on your videos are second to none. Thank you for all the effort that you put into making them.

Hector Alvarez

vielen dank für die super übungen grüße aus wien

Gerhard Kucera

Excellent lesson! If you can keep the rhythm you can play a lot of stuff, if you can't you can't play anything. We def need more of this.

YESSSS MOAR RHYTHM please Bernth... As a begginer I've been making up rhythm exercises on top of that rhythm challenge from a couple of months ago, because I feel rhythm is just so, so important (at any level but crucial now at the beginning for me). This is definitely going on my daily practice list, together with legato and alt picking being also daily staples at the moment. Thanks a lot!

Ivan V.

Another great lesson, Thank you so much for the triplet vs. dotted note hack. That´s a good one !

Dominik Glöckner

I recently joined and this is my favorite online learning experience by far! This specific lesson has been on my bucket list to learn for a while. Thank you!

Zach Zdziebko

Ya this is my kryptonite, guilty as charged. And my band mates didn’t really help in this area early on in my playing as they adjusted to my playing. I always came up with unique guitar riffs and so on. So they would just follow me. It created a weakness that I pay for till this day.

James Hetfield approves of this rhythm workout challenge #downpicking

Eric Bailey

This is such a helpful video. Also reading along with the music helped me out a lot in understanding how to read music better in general. I’ve been wanting to learn more about it and have a super basic understanding and this helped a lot. Definitely adding this to my practice routine and would love to have more videos on topics like this. Hard to imagine shredding…but not being in time. This is some great foundation work!!! Thanks Bernth!!

Rob Lee

Could you tackle some Rhythm ideas in the style of John Browne from Monuments?

Oc C

Timing is a problem for me, I would love to see more material on this topic.

Misha Lerman

Hah, 20-30 Takes. Would be great if that would suffice for the nontrivial stuff in my recordings :-P Maybe my bars are too high (especially after being in this community for some time), but I definitively need more takes on the really hard bits untill every single note is defined, in time and there is no noise, overlap or similar.
