#218 - Get Lightning FAST Fingers In 2 WEEKS! (Full Workout)

You guys and girls voted for a workout that includes ALL topics we discussed in the last couple of months - so I'm happy to present a 2-week challenge that will greatly improve your finger speed, as well as your picking technique :)

Here are all your practice files (video play-along with no talking, slow/medium/fast backing tracks, tabs, guitar pro files): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pL8MFlOnJM0RiJblu_ILXFRrQ5IKdfCF?usp=sharing

While the exercise tempos are not that fast (to suit our big community of intermediate players), the workouts themselves will allow you to drastically increase your technique skills - but only if you watch your hands closely and analyze where your personal weak spots are at the moment! Common ones include big, uncontrolled finger movements or getting stuck between the strings with different picking patterns.

Hope you have tons of fun with this! Here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6zqs1np3scmazul/AACkRQRgd7B8MB_PUN92jKqva?dl=0

#218 - Get Lightning FAST Fingers In 2 WEEKS! (Full Workout)

One evening into trying the Legato part and I have realized that I am missing the technical skills. Started the legato package instead. Will continue with the alternate part of this challenge of course. Medium backing track works for the first tempo. Second tempo is too fast

Jonny

So my wife had to explain to me for 30 minutes why I need to set the metronome to 140bpm to match the pace of 70 bpm from the video 😅 I think I got it now. Started with the alternate picking part and will move on to Legato next. I really like the melody of the trainings

Jonny

I find it really confusing why you have the tab jump instead of move smoothly - its confusing and so not smooth. Makes it harder to learn.

Ryan Nunes

Crazy, if i pick it the way I want, no problem, but the alternate picking every string is killing me.

Joemanjamz

Loved this lesson can't play it very fast yet but I'm working on it

Jimmy old school

Hey, yes - you will need all your fingers for playing guitar effectively! I'd suggest checking out the 4 videos that appear when you type the word 'pinky' in the search box, that should help!

Bernd Brodträger

Hey Bernth, this lesson is amazing! Thanks so much :) quick question: I cannot seem to usemy pinky finger in any shape. I only use my index, middle and ring finger. Is this gonna be a problem down the line?

Phillip Ritterbusch

Absolutely love this type of lessons

Marco

Very Nice! I enjoy a lot doing this yesterday! What added to the excitement is the guitar pro file with bass and drums. This way, i can import as a MIDI on my desired tempo and put VST plugins on my DAW and boom instant backingtracks with any tempo that i like. So, thanks a lot for this Berth! Please add drums and bass on guitar pro of you previous exercises.

Davens Michael

Thanks for the comment, Doug! I highly suggest checking out the legato course I made especially for Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/184-ultimate-30-54171102 Hope that helps :)

Bernd Brodträger

You can definitely use your fingering! I just picked these because I envisioned the actual chord shapes and how I would play them - but with arpeggios, you have much more freedom so if there's a fingering that works for you, just go for it :)

Bernd Brodträger

Love your lessons Bernth! I'm also using Jamplay and Truefire online but your lessons are great for building speed and focusing on technique. I had a question about the first exercise: Alternate picking. The very first Bbmaj7 arpeggio, I felt more comfortable using my 3rd finger instead of pinky on the b string (D). Is there any advantage/reason you use your pinky? I was wondering before committing to learning your fingering on the arps or should i stay in my comfort zone? - I have short stubby fingers so maybe its more comfortable for me

Hey Bernth, exercises 2 and 3 are exposing some clear weaknesses for me in pull offs. It’s difficult to get good volume on each note. Is there another lesson I should look at to do in parallel with this that would work on that?

Doug P

Phew... guess this is one of your hardest if not THE hardest workout to spontaneously play along with. Even without adapting to my 1 step down tuning I guess. Only block 4 is easy to play on the fly for me... all the others I'll have to dig and remember what to play before I can play that along with that video files which start pretty fast I think.

Sephiroth

Exactly, great eye for detail Doug! It's the one with the black flat finish :)

Bernd Brodträger

This is a great workout thank you!

Matthew R.W.

Sweet! New exercises in ALL the techniques I'm continually trying to improve. Thanks so much Bernth!

Michael Latham

This is one I'll be returning to a lot! Love the musicality of the arpeggios, those 7th chords are pretty! Makes practising technique more fun! Thank you!

Dimitri

yeah ....great job...thank you so much

Massimo Romagnoli

Pretty sure this one is an Ibanez AZ2402.

Doug P

I can get through this until it gets to the tapping then I have to slow it to .75 Working on the tapping and hybrid section today economy of motion and time on the up slant This is awesome Bernth Practice works mate 🤘🏼 you’re the best

jaz

Great lesson. Also what is that black guitar you always use in the videos. I wanna snag one.

Benjamin Hirons

I'm really having fun working with your practicies exercises, actually I decide also to attend an accademy school, thanks Bernth to motivate me.

Vincenzo

I like these licks (esp. 3 and 5) for a very special reason: they remind me of old 8bit games from the Commodore 64 era. Let's play Giana Sisters :-)

MF

You’re doing great work Bernth! So much good teaching to work with this month.

Mark McNish

This has me excited! Can't wait to start after work!
