#209 - The 6 WORST Guitar Songwriting MISTAKES! (+ SONGWRITING COURSE)

You guys and girls voted for songwriting/arrangement on the wishlist, so I want to present a very special episode today :)

I also made a new Songwriting Course just for you, in this one I show you exactly how I write songs like 'Dopamine' at home - here are all your files: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qjveTQlrZGhEcRZJwiwf6LadzMCdszUG?usp=sharing

The main video is all about my personal biggest mistakes when it comes to songwriting. They all stood in the way of reaching more people with my music and I could fix some of them over the years - so my biggest goal is to inspire you to get creative right after watching all your videos until the end :)

As always, here's a Dropbox link for the songwriting course in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vpjz95aubteom9m/AADXm946HethkNpPJgm3G5hpa?dl=0

#209 - The 6 WORST Guitar Songwriting MISTAKES! (+ SONGWRITING COURSE)

So amazing, swallowed it whole. If one could choke on it, I would be dead. Personally, would love to see more of such song-writing videos (,please!). What also would be a HUGE help (probably just for bloody newbs as myself) is how to efficiently operate DAWs for workflow - i.e. keyboard shortcuts, usefull features etc.. Thank you for such an amazing insight, once again!

Ronnie

Thank you for sharing this course! I took a songwriting class through Berklee last year and it got me started writing songs of my own, but it was definitely geared towards pop music which killed my soul a little bit lol. I'm excited to learn more about writing from the rock/metal perspective! Can't wait.

CLeia

Great that you made such a course. This will help me a lot. Awesome.

Time to put this course into action and apply! Thank you Bernth, good luck to everyone on their next songs. 💪😎

What is the website he referred too?

Jeff Walters

Practical application of theory knowledge seems just so useful to me, hopefully the Patreon community feels the same!

Dominic Boldeman

I'd love to do more! It doesn't seem to do very well on YouTube but if the Patreon community votes for it again, I'm more than happy to continue this - I'd love do more creative stuff like this and it's also very liberating for me personally :)

Bernd Brodträger

Thanks for asking! It was originally one long video but I cut it into separate parts for structure (which is what everybody kept asking for when I used to do uncut 30+ minute courses), that's why some endings might seem abrupt :) Hope that helps

Bernd Brodträger

Yes I would love to see you finish this song lol thanks

Julio Moreira

Same here! I was just switching from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 and also had the feeling I missed something... :-) Think the video was cut off to quickly maybe? Great & inspiring content though... as usual!!!

Kenny Claes

Bernth, Please do more song courses like this one. I really enjoyed it. I noticed perhaps, you sped though or omitted some parts to make the lesson shorter or did I miss something? I appreciate your work and hope to see more! Thank you!

Jason Schusster

Hi Bernth, I really enjoyed this course and hope you'll do more of this style of content in future. It would be really cool to see how you go about developing additional parts as this has always been a struggle for me. You mentioned stripping back the cadence to maybe a two chord variant for a cut back verse part and also rhythmic motifs as elements that bring consistency across a full track. I'm sure there are many other "standard" approaches you consider, do you have more tips? Any chance you'll do a part 2 of this course and show us further song development?

Dominic Boldeman

Really looking forward to watching this one - thanks, Bernth!

Wilhelm Glomm

Haha nice one :)

Being humble about some of your failures is a sign of strength if you use those lessons learned to help with growth. that was a surprise fact indeed! I own two of Belphegor's CD's!!!

Rylie Franco

Hi. Hab ich übersehen wie die Website heißt die du im yt video ansprichst?

Hans Seestaller

Ohhhhh YEAH! Another cool course for composing! Been wanting to learn about this since I started playing. I enjoy learning songs by bands and artists I’m inspired by but I’ve realized recently that my objective with the guitar is learning how to compose music. THANK YOU BERNTH! You’re a lifesaver!!!

Rob Lee

Hi Bernth just realised that you are also Austrian, awesome to have such an outstanding guitar player in our country, love your courses as they make me work more structured on my progress in my guitar playing. Thx man

Michael Frischauf

Woke up, saw this while drinking coffee out of my new shred community coffee cup. Great way to start the day. I know we may need to vote but hopefully more songwriting posts.

Eric

Brilliant! To paraphrase Arnold, "Get to the studio!" ;)

Edwin van Slingerlandt

Kyre Kyre
